Now that Switch 2 is out and offers a higher level of power over its predecessor that makes more ports economical, I expect we'll see more Sony titles make their way to the platform in time.

No, no way, at least not in the next 10 years. Playstation hardware creates a "Garden" for 3° party software Sales, there's much more money to be made on this "garden" then going 3° party.

Playstation base of consoles is something that is usualy at +100M, if they start going 3° party they Will likely hurt their user base. It's too much risk.

It's not working for Xbox, i'm sure Sony knows this and is not going to follow-up MS steps.

No.

Even before this week's massive layoffs and studio closures, Xbox was already in less than ideal shape. It's been pretty clear for a good number of months now that maximizing hardware sales is no longer a priority and that the long-term strategy is to maximize software sales. I'm assuming that's still the plan going forward even after this week's events. I doubt MS will axe Xbox as a brand. But it's clear that there's no hope in regaining the market share and hardware sales volume they lost last generation.

But with PlayStation, that's still a strong global brand. While there was a bit of a roadblock earlier this generation due to stock shortages, the PS5 has almost caught up with the PS4 worldwide, and is actually ahead of the PS4 in the U.S. & Japan. There's no indication that the brand is losing steam. While there have been some Sony-published games that have since come to Xbox, there are important caveats. MLB The Show was forced by Major League Baseball to be published on other platforms. Sony didn't have a choice in the matter. As for Death Stranding and Helldivers II, they were both developed by third-party studios, and only published by Sony. In Death Stranding's case, it's entirely possible that Kojima negotiated its release on other platforms after a period of exclusivity. In Helldivers II's case, it's also a live service game that could benefit from a larger player base, and Sony did say earlier this year that, for that very reason, they will look into releasing live-service titles on other platforms on a case-by-case basis.

I doubt we'll see any actual first-party PlayStation games come to Xbox aside from maybe the odd live service title. We aren't going to see God of War or Horizon or Gran Turismo or Intergalactic showing up on Xbox or Switch. Sony probably doesn't want to devalue a strong brand by doing what Microsoft is doing and going full-bore "release everything everywhere we can." Even in the cases where they've released first-party single-player titles to PC, it wasn't until long after the PlayStation release, and they never came to other systems.

In accordance to the VGC forum rules, §8.5, I hereby exercise my right to demand to be left alone regarding the subject of the effects of the pandemic on video game sales (i.e., "COVID bump").

Sony just posted a job listing for a "Senior Director, Multiplatform and Account Management" who will "play a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the global commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios software titles across all digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile"

Looks like it's happening.

Of course they are porting their games to other platforms. I don't expect day 1 but it makes sense profit wise.

Porting a game to another platform cost around ~1 million dollars according to AI (yeah, I know). Therefore it doesn't even have to sell much to make a profit. Which is all shareholders care about.

As an Xbox fan, I just want the silent hill 2 remake and god of war games at this point.

It'll be so over for Playstation if they release major singleplayer games on PC day 1, which I wouldn't put past them. Their greed will severely damage the Playstation brand, and unlike Microsoft they won't have the software power to offset the huge decline. If this is how they wanna play if, they will eventually regress to a medium sized 3rd party publisher in the shadow of Microsoft.

For every one less Playstation console sold, they'll be losing roughly 18 software sales + the revenue equivalent in microtransactions + subscriptions + accessories + they'll be paying a 30% tax for every software sold outside Playstation. It's a recepe for disaster and the clowns at Sony apparently don't realize it.

I honestly don't give a fuck anymore. The little attachment and nostalgia I have left for the brand will die soon. And I rarely replay games anymore so the PS game library I accumulated is a minor factor. One less plastic box in my room is a win I guess.

No playstation actually sells consoles box doesn't

If I recall correctly, the money isn't made in the sale of consoles: it's made in the sale of software.

Astro Bot would probably do well on the Switch 2. One of the best 3D platformers in recent years...or indeed one of the best ever.
