All I want is more stages, more characters , more items and better visuals.

Maybe add a transformation gimmick

Also add in the ability to modify the items in Single player mode.

Nintendo was never going to start spending $150+ million willy nilly on game projects, so the new Mario Kart pouring more into more characters per race, probably 4K DLSS type resolution makes sense.

Someone noted that the karts look like they transform (jet ski?) so expect some nice water effects if that's that case.

That isn't required. Going back to the Wii U and even currently on PS5/Series X, it just takes developers some time to retool or learn how to make games look better beyond "more polygons". Compare Pikmin 3 to Pikmin 4 for example. Huge leap in fidelity but pretty similar hardware. This game could of also began as a Switch project and was later ported to Switch 2 similar to something like God of War Ragnorok which is essentially a PS4 title with settings maxed out on PS5.

Edit: and on that note, A switch 1 cross gen release for MK9 is not out of the question. In fact I think its likely. Nintendo mentioned they want a smooth transition through generations without starting userbases from zero. I think Switch 2 exclusives will be more "core" games at first or games using unique features of the system... We'll find out in April.

The leap to Wii U/Switch levels I think in Nintendo's mind is good enough for a lot of their games, I don't think they have a big desire to double/triple their budgets past that.

Nate has said things like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PS5 only thus far), MGS Delta, and MS Flight Simulator 2024 are coming so things like that will push the chipset I'm sure.

Nintendo can keep their games roughly in the same ballpark they are now but just take them up to 4K DLSS/60 and do things like add more characters in a racing game like Mario Kart, that all checks out. Something like the next Zelda I think they will spend big bucks on though.

If they re-use tracks from mario kart 8 deluxe, which they might do, it may be a good move to allow crossplay on these for mario kart 8 players with mario kart 9.

Then again, i laugh at leaks saying "they'll announce a new mario kart, a new mario, a new pokémon, a new zelda"... Yeah... I can announce a new year for next year too, it wouldn't be less stupid.

A rumor is saying that all the games that pokemon company talks about on pokemon day will be for switch 1 only, meaning pokemon legends ZA is a switch 1 game only. They may keep the big reveals for the 30th anniversary on 2026. Well, switch didn't have any pokemon game except let's go for like 2 years.

My guesses are

Mario Kart 9 is day 1
Metroid Prime 4 will be very close to launch if not at launch
The next 3D Mario is the Oct/Nov holiday title

Probably a May launch date. Likely a shit ton of 3rd party port content that devs have been waiting to bring to the Switch ecosystem but were waiting for Switch 2.

So like Street Fighter VI, RE4 Remake, FF7 Remake, Metaphor, Halo: MCC, Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Elden Ring (?), etc. etc. come on down. I would expect "proper" ports of Hogwarts and Mortal Kombat 1 also.

It would be right in line with what TPC has done with every new Nintendo console: pretend like it doesn't exist for the first year or two and release a game for the old console that could have been used to boost the value of the new one.

Yeah I can totally see Nintendo reusing a lot of content from MK8 Deluxe into MK9.

They spent years remaking all those tracks, they can probably just fast track a lot of that content very quickly into MK9.

Now that we can deduce the "mouse mode" is officially ... well official ... PC ports on the Switch 2 are going to benefit a lot.
