Beaten Final Fantasy 16. 6/10

Phenomenal music and HDR, really great production value on the main story path, pretty good story with excellent character but a facade of an RPG and almost everything else is a average as a game can possibly be. The characters and story beats really do the heavy lifting here, I'd rate it a 7 had they not added in pointless fetch quests in the main path. HDR is some of the wildest I've seen, playing this game at night in some of the boss battles often blinded me, so much use of it and so many colour effects that are just really cool to look at even if they are being used in over spectacle fashion.

The side stuff is like an MMO, hell some of the main story stuff is like an MMO and it would make a great bones for one but as a single player RPG it's bland as they come. The game is best when it's being a DMC like game and I really wish they had leaned into that and put the recourses wasted on the side stuff into making it as great as it can be, a slimmed down one at that, it has no need to be this long but that's a persistentissue with almost all games these days. Pity, could have been something great but wasted potential on chasing the idea that Final Fantasy needs to be an RPG. That said, story and characters are that compelling that one slogged through some real shit part to see them through to the end.

GoW Ragnorak. Jak 1.

So, playing through DA:I again, in between, I started Uncharted 4 again on hard but wasn't feeling it but it was around last weekend time that that I got a gift from someone at work, the flu.

So, been sat at home all week not working. I played and platted Kurushi on PS5 (took me 1hr 36 mins). Didn't realise trophies were on these old PS1 releases. So looked it up and it's only owned IPs but still great. So downloaded and played and completed Jumping Flash! as well, no plat here. Not sure I can be bothered.

Hmm, pie.

Games I've beaten
1. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)
2. Ys IV: Mask of the Sun (SNES/SFC)
3. Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys (SNES)

Now playing:
1. Soul Blazer (SNES)

Around the Network

Path of Exile 2 Early Access
Persona 3 Reload
Dynasty Warriors Origin (Sun, Liu, Cao)

I completed Dynasty Warriors Origin including all 3 paths. This game would be a 10/10 with free choice of character and some dev time put into things like that. The gameplay is much improved, but still similar enough. Music is pretty decent and there was even a throwback song from DW3, which pumped me up. I really liked the Podao, it fit my playstyle so perfectly, it felt like cheating. Unfortunately there are a lot of negatives. The single character being a big one. The original story wasn't bad, but all of those scenes could have been put into the existing characters that we already liked. The 3 choices for Sun were not my preferred characters despite me liking Sun the most. The reason they were chosen was solely due to the weapon variety. The 3 choices for Liu all have similar weapons, they could have given Cheng Pu the spear and I would have been hyped. Gan Ning is in the game but mostly in the background and the entire storyline is spent trashing on Sun Quan despite arguably being the strongest and smartest and longest ruling out of the 3 emperors. Speaking of 3 kingdoms, it never gets there. I enjoyed 3 kingdoms era the most in most games and this game doesn't even make it there. So most of the game is spent sucking on Cao Cao and Liu Bei. This game will probably be the best selling DW since DW3, due to the gameplay improvements, so I expect a DW Origins 2 with the same style of game. So that will be disappointing due to the single character thing but at least it will be during 3 Kingdoms era. So there you have it. Check out this game if you like Late Han/ Cao/ Liu.

GoW Ragnorak. Jak 1. Kurushi, Jumping Flash!.

In an kinda weird sense of "I need to play more of...", I had an itch and went back and played God of War 2018. Like a few weeks after Ragnorak.

Mainly did the main story as played all the other stuff before and man Mulsepheim is tedious. And honestly, I'd say I had a lot more fun with God Of War 2018 than I did Rag.

There's something about it that is just simpler, it's probably the same effect for when I played Horizon and enjoyed the first over the second. Sure, stuff in Rag was good, extra weapon, new companions, playing as boy but in the end the whole thing felt more contained, streamlined even. Rag had 'bloat' which felt more like "We have to add stuff to make it bigger."

Like, the entire area of Vanheim that is completely optional, like it felt it was just added to add more gameplay time of an honestly already long game, fun if those sections might have been.

Yet, GoW's extra areas were just side shoots of Midgar really, small caves or dungeons with simple objectives and it felt more natural to explore.

Anyway, I think I need to take a break from GoW but will def go back to do NG+ of Rag at some point to see the extra stuff in that mode. NG+ items from GoW were great so expect good things here.

Beat High on Life. 5/10

Decent game, with some novel ideas and mildly fun gunplay and tools like a really cheap FPS version of Ratchet and Clank that knows what length it should be at a nice 9 hours or so and I enjoyed parts of it. Unfortunately it has Unbelievably bad humour that never hits and is cringe inducing, repetitive enemies and the fun gameplay foes ware it's welcome, the bosses are more frustrating than fun and it is really cheap, somewhere between indie and AA, thankfully it's a PS Extra game right now but the fact that this studio went from Accounting plus to this is commendable. I'd rate this a 6 if I played it with NPCs on mute, the story isn't interesting anyway so I wish I hadn't bothered with it and I'd have liked it a bit more.

Edit: Upping the score to a 6/10 as it got me finishing it in a matter of days during severe depression and that counts for a point at the very least. There are setting to reduce NPC chatter so at least the devs know and I can feel decent about giving it a 6 and it might be cheap but it's also really well made for what it is.
