One of the most important parts of a JRPG to me is having a good party of characters.
The ones that come to mind for me roughly in order:

Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG comes to my mind right now.
All of the ones I can think of come from Final Fantasy:
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 10
Final Fantasy 9
...pretty much in that order too.
Honorable mention goes to Undertale, which isn't made by the Japanese and you don't have a party. But it feels a lot like the JRPG and the "bosses" are a great cast of characters.
