Forums - Gaming Discussion - Quality Mode or Performance? (Poll)

I choose, by default...

Quality mode 2 6.90%

Performance mode 22 75.86%

Never go near setting at all. 1 3.45%

I wish every game had a b... 4 13.79%

Total:29

I'm interested to see the results. Typically I go for Performance mode almost all of the time, even for titles that don't have much need for fast FPS cause of the choppiness and sluggishness it causes to the camera panning, making one ill. There are exceptions like in Stellar Blade with it's balanced mode it is amazing and more studios should be doing it.

However, there is such a thing as good 30fps I kow realise, one that doesn't effect camera angle movement or cause choppiness. Alan Wake is the first game since I got my PS4 PRO back in 2018 where, if given the option, I didn't choose Performance mode and I see no reason to go to Performance. It's just a smooth 30fps and this gets me wondering, why can't all 30 fps games be like this and yet they always seem to never be smooth. Does anyone know what is going on with this titles quality mode?

Performance almost always. It's easier to see the difference between 30 and 60 FPS for me most of the time compared to more graphical details and higher resolution.

Interesting. If Cery is right about 70% choosing performance, and he seems to beN maybe devs should stop with quality mode altogether and just optimise for 60fps.

I havent played many games that has that choice(I think), but I did first try quality mode in Pac-Man World Re-Pac on Switch, but soon changed it to performance mode because it had some delay in gameplay on QM. So I much preferred that.

Depends on what the quality mode offers I guess. If it's slightly less stable, but makes the image look noticeably better I would go for it. Although this is more akin Stellar Blade Performance and Performance RT mode in Ratchet and Clank rift apart than dedicated quality.

If the framerate drops from 60 to 30 just for a few extra pixels, I would say performance all the way. I can live with a few drops though for a Performance RT mode. Since it makes the game look a lot better. I would also make a case for quality when performance is basically an uncapped mode with wild varying framerates Dragon Dogma 2. Give me quality in this case, at least it's stable and that bothers me less than framerates and framepacing all over the place.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm having a hard time telling the difference between low and ultra details in most PC games these days. So I naturally turn the graphics sliders to the left. On console, I alwas prefer performance.

Buy does the game not feel worse for you to play? Like the camera doesn't move smoothly or characters look like they are jitterbug or God forbid, do you not notice the trailed effect from the choppiness?

Performance mode always.
