I was hoping to put together another list. I'm playing Dragons Dogma 2 after deleting it because it is an absolute piece of shit game but the fun factor has brought me back, now I'm curious how many of utterly terrible games, like I'm talking broken messes here with insanely bad design choices or jankiness that is right in your face, just awful games by every measure that'd you'd rate very lowly but are addictive and fun. As is said, the only thing worse than a bad game is a painfully mediocre one. Let's find out if we are over looking games because they look bad but are quite... good.
I'll start.
Dragons Dogma 2 - Absolutely and utterly a POS game where the developers choose to make the game frustrating and design it poorly out of some strange belief they have of what made the first game good. Really baffling decisions that bring the game down to as low as a 5/10 but this game is anything but average in the immediate gameplay loops.
Car X Drift Racing Online - Intensely addictive moment moment drift raving but everything else is terribly built, shitty designed and grindy AF.
In Death PSVR - Massively indie project that is bare bones AF and looks like an asset flip but g'lord is it fun.
Shadow Warrior 2 - the open world design is so loose it ruins the game but the moment to moment shooting is incredible. It feels like they tried to merge linear old school shooters with open world and it fails so miserably it borders on painful mediocrity in most else but the core shoots bits.
Kingdom Come Deliverence (at launch on console) Completely broke game that you'll wonder why the fuck you keep playing when it kicks you in the balls over and over. Even when it's not broken it chooses to do stuff like make the main character a sleep walker in a world that is very hard to navigate and dangerous to traverse. The game brings the Bethesda Vibe like no other though, can't say it's exactly fun but it is enthralling enough to hook you for reasons I can't explain..
So, what else is there? I can only imagine this will be a slow thread.
