What's that?

A Hall-Effect joystick is a type of controller that utilizes Hall-Effect technology as its core electronic output to determine the joystick's position. Unlike traditional potentiometer joysticks, Hall-Effect joysticks offer contactless operation, ensuring a long lifespan.

^ Solving the drift issue or at least reduce it.

No thanks. Instead they should make hall effect sticks the standard.

What's that?

Something SEGA innovated with Saturn and Dreamcast. The Analog sticks use magnets instead of moving parts so they never drift. More and more 3rd party controllers now are using them.

Nice. I've only ever had drift on the joy cons and the Quest 2. Do they feel different, like that mechanical keyboard feeling as opposed to soft clicks. 🤔 I remember the little red joy sticks in laptops back in the day, those felt really good, I bet they used a magnet.

Modern ones feel normal.  Saturn and DC ones had a different feel. Dual Sense is bad with drifting as well. I'm pretty gentle on sticks but had 2 Dual Senses drift within months to a couple of years.

The haptic feedback does seem cool and hopefully it becomes a standard feature at some point. I'm used to Xbox controllers and innovation there has been very lacking lately so adding this and gyro would be a way for them to take a nice step forward.

I thought they had adoptive triggers, no? Could have sworn I saw that as a selling point when researching to buy a Series S.

They font wanna fix the problem though, neither does Nintendo cause it sells controllers. Obsolescence and even without having to plan it, it's a gold mine.

Nope the Xbox Series controller was changed a lot less compared to how much the Dualsense was changed compared to the Dualshock 4. It's understandable since the Xbox One controller was already really high quality but due to that Xbox controllers are now kinda outdated in terms of feature set which is unfortunate and hopefully will be fixed with the next revision.

It's as game changing as vr is. But sony butchered it. If you want an example of how good it is, play returnal, astro.

Yep, Returnal is the one that blew me away and Cyberpunks driving plus a few other smaller games that make really nice use of it like Teardown. Astro is good but nothing that made the game feel enhanced in gameplay just kind "oh, that feels cool".
