And the VGA winner is...

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth 65 24.34%

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree 35 13.11%

Astro Bot 88 32.96%

Metaphor: Fantazio 33 12.36%

Wukong: Black Myth 29 10.86%

Balatro 17 6.37%

Total:267

1. FFVII rebirth
2. Astro Bot
3. Metaphor
4. Zelda EOW
5. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth
6. Tekken 8

These games all had great reviews on Metacritic and well some are quite niche they are popular enough and sold at least 1 million. Astro is sales are still unclear though, but should have hit 1 million at least.

I'm holding off my predictions until S.T.AL.K.E.R. 2 releases. Eligibility date has been pushed to Nov 22nd, so the game is now under consideration.

Definetely sold over 1M as it's the 25th best selling game in the USA for the year with only October sales and was reported to be the the best selling opening for any non-Mario platformer in the last 10 years. We know Sonic Frontiers sold 3.5M in 6 months and Astro Bot was outselling it during the launch at least.

My predictions would be as follow:

1. Astro Bot
2. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
3. Tekken 8
4. Metaphor: Fantasia
5. Unicorn Overlord (🤞)
6. Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

If Elden Ring SOTE can be considered, then thatd be also part of my list.
Regardless, id be surprised if FF7Rebirth doesnt win, that game took the whole year hostage.

Astro Bot will win but honestly predicting the nominees is only gettin trickier and tricker. I think I would still stand mostly by what I predicted previously, except I  underestimated Metaphor which is probably a lock now. Like I said Veilguard also has a good chance since there's little western competition, but it isn't quite a sure thing either.

GOTY nominees should be:

AstroBot
FF7 Rebirth
Metaphor ReFantazio
Hades 2
Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth
Tekken 8

AstroBot will probably win the award in end, while Metaphor will probably sweep alot of the other categories like Best Narrative and Best RPG and Best Direction.

Pretty sad year if something like Astro or FF7 Remake Part 2 wins but at the same time I guess it was a shit year because I can’t think of much else. Maybe Mario & Luigi will be really good.

My vote is Hunt Showdown 1896

Honestly? While maybe this would be perfectly accurate in describing the first half of the year, the second half has kinda been packed. Astro, Metaphor, Zelda EoW, Sonic X Shadow, M&L, Black Myth Wukong, Silent Hill 2 Remake, CoD:BO6 (which received rather strong critical reception), Concord, and so many others will be dropping within a three-month span. Not to mention Helldivers 2, Elden Ring & AW2 DLC, Like A Dragon, Tekken 8, Animal Well. Balatro, etc. Not a great year, especially not compared to 2023, though I feel comfortable calling it an average year.

Outside Metaphor and Astro, I don't think there is any competition. Unless the new Mario & Luigi perform way better than I expect.

You don't think FF7 Rebirth will even compete? Damn.

I'll be shocked if it doesn't win, though I sincerely hope it does not because I don't want to see remakes or remasters winning as the best new game. (Would only make an exception to a possible LoD remake because yeah, my favorite game ever).

Not really.  I think astro or meta has it locked.

Nominees will be revealed Monday, November 18th.

Any last predictions? Honestly, I can’t say I’m too excited abt TGA this year, especially with last year as well SGF having been such a disaster. It’s always cool to see which game wins the big award, in any case, even if there is a heavy skew in favor of massive AAA experiences.
