Forums - Sony Discussion - Until Dawn remaster player count 28% weaker than Concord based on TrueTrophies data

$60 with no $10 upgrade from PS4 probably at least halved the initial audience, if not much more than that.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 48 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

The game can not decide whether it's 30 FPS or 24 FPS. Also who thinks a warm colour pallet is a good idea for a horror game in winter.I would say it deserves even less.

Seems like Astro Bot sold around a third of TLOU p2 remastered. If I do the math correctly. Although according to the link the remastered version did rather well, probably due to the upgrade.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

The game didn't go well on Steam too

Considering the type of game we're speaking here, this isn't exactly what a lot of people who previously invested themselves in would purchase again in a shinier package at full price.

Doesn't matter if it was meant as a movie tie-in(ironically I don't expect a movie based on this would fare much better), the quasi absent marketing and now the absence of a substantial positive response from the market should be quite telling ...

(As somebody who is currently pursing a PhD in mathematics, I feel compelled to follow up here lol: Yes, you did do your math correctly. If — for instance — Until Dawn Remaster sold 45 units, then TLoUpt2 Remaster would have sold 3000 units whereas Astro would have sold 1000. More generally, if Until Dawn Remaster sold [x] units, then TLoUpt2 Remastered has sold [x*(1000/15)] units and Astro has sold [x*(1000/45)] units.)

To address your point, TLoUpt2 Remastered has high numbers since it was a $10 upgrade for anybody who already owned the game for PS4. It’s gonna be hard for $60 Astro Bot to compete, and is especially understood when noting how TLoUpt2 Remastered literally had an opening larger than that of FF7VIIReBirth according to TrueTrophies.

Seemed like an odd choice for Sony to remaster, the original wasn't a big seller and it has only been 9 years. Lots of factors working against it too, low marketing budget, short game (8-10 hours) for full price ($60), no cheaper upgrade path for owners of the original.

Sequel rumoured to be in development, movie just finished filming, it is the studio's first game and updates have been made to connect to the sequel.

Pretty crappy they didn't offer the $10 upgrade.

It's a full-on remake that doesn't even run on the original game engine, that's way. Not just a PS5 port of an existing PS4 game.

The framerate is the most accurate part of the remake haha, original game also ran as low as 20FPS. As for the warm colour pallet, that's like for the first hour or so as the characters head up to the cabin. At that point, the game follows the orignal colour pallet and even gets darker from what I have seen.

Implying the game has a warm colour pallet as a design for the entire game is just wrong.

Plan on buying at some point.

G'lord. I didn't think it could get worse than Concord. You know why though, cause everyone who wants to play this game already has the game andnthe audience hasn't magically expanded and the game still looks fantastic, in some ways better than the remaster and even if it did lopk better so few people have the hardware to avail of it. I do expect there to be a lot more playstation though, as there'll be a good chunk of people who skipped until dawn and wanna dive in for the "better ecperience". I doubt PC numbers rare reflective of PS5 numbers here.

Edit: Oh this is the PS5 stats...Holy shit. What went wrong? It's doing better on steam than PS5. My god.

...play the original at a discount if it's still listed on the steam. The game looks actually worse in a lot of character scenes. The faces have an uncanny and less expressive loom to them.

I guess the remaster trend is coming to an end or at least remasters of one generation old games. Probably a good thing, get back to remaking 5th and 6th gen games, there's plenty of them and many that deserve the treatment.
