The TV I have? No, it's like 12 years old by this point. Current TVs in general? Yeah they definitely surpass cinemas in picture quality.

And they are cheaper than they've ever been. I'd say the lower end of mid range is great tech that was thousands just a few short years ago. If you game, ya gotta upgrade that TV, for HDR alone.

My 85'' Sony x90cl (purchased Nov 2023) is what I prefer for gaming on all platforms (Playstation, Nintendo, Microsoft and PC) and what I prefer for movies/tv shows, etc

Edit: I have a 75'' in my master bedroom which used to be in my media room but I moved it to our master bedroom because my wife didnt want to come upstairs due to being pregnant at the time but we kept the 75'' in our bedroom.

Cinema or Imax, is a much better experience.
While I don't really come off that way to most people (because I'm not shy or anything like that, I'm highly introverted... but I paradoxically enjoy cinema, pubs, and parties...

...just not at my place :D

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

G'lord. 85". That's insane. Did you build the house around?

I prefer the cinema. The TV set up I have is not great. Even if it were, I much prefer watching movies at the theater. One big reason is that I have no attention span to watch things at home where there are so many distractions and I am in complete control. It honestly takes me forever to watch a movie at home.

At the theater though, I like that the screen has my complete uninterrupted attention, I'm experiencing the film the same as everyone else in the theater, and that I will be done with the experience in one sitting.

Built in 2018 and moved in the same year. Moving into a newly built home was an awesome experience.

As for the TV, yep 85'' was something that I wanted for a while - upgraded from my 75'' which is in my Master bedroom now.

Also have a 55'' but that is in the room I gave to my parents.

I still have my 40 something inch Sony bravia which was my first HD TV from 2011 which is outside my media room.

Edit: Oh  and I have a 7.1 800w surround sound system for my media room and my master bedroom got my old 5.1 surround sound system.

Do you find it too big at all? I know I had a 50" in my apartment a few years back and the seating was too close I had to downgrade but that was before image motion improved. I reckon if you have to move your head at the neck then it's too big or are you far enough back that, that's not a problem?

I'm far enough back so its not an issue at all.

I'm hoping in a few years - the Sony Bravia 98'' will go down in price, right now its around $6k to $7k

My 75'' TV (2018) I got for 3k and my 85'' (2023) for 2k.

My god, 98" is insanity. You'd really wanna wait for 8k on that, at what point do you start loosing image quality cause of pixel density

...

Surround is often overlooked, adds so much to the experience. I have a Sonos surround system, works really well with the Arc.
