Well, oddly enough Monster Hunter Wilds looks better on PS5 than on PC. The PC all maxed out is a sickeningly sharp image with over detail while the PS5 is a softer image on the environments and clothing which I much prefer even though the PC version technically looks more graphically impressive. This is a really odd problem like when you watch films at 60fps, it just doesn't feel right and I hope this issue is ironed out for 10th gen cause I doubt I'll be able to play games that cause the sickening effect of over detail or whatever is going on to cause this issue.

I kinda have that same feeling with Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered on PS5 Pro playing Frozen Silds at 4K60.
There's so much sharp detail, over detail is a good way to sum it up.

I think it's caused by the high contrast of all the fine detail. In nature, moving blades of grass, plants, leaves, flowers, weeds etc don't have as high contrast as games portray. I don't have an issue with Burning Shores where the foliage doesn't have as much contrast, fits better together or it's due to superior lighting. Or maybe the render target is lower and upscaling smooths it out better.

HZD on PS5 Pro at times gets a bit hard to see through all the foliage detail. Snow and rain is also high contrast, not helping.

Yeah, I seen on on YouTube and I can imagine it's worse without YouTube compression blurring it. I don't even know what to call this effect or what the hell is even going on to cause the sickening feeling that happens when such a sharp overly detailed image is in motion, it's a new phenomenon I've only started noticing in titles that are releasing next year or after. Thank God GTA6 and Ghost of Yotei doesn't suffer from it, from what I can see.

It's kinda the same as with games on a high res monitor before anti aliasing and texture filtering came about. Very busy picture, exhausting your eyes/mind. Too high local contrast perhaps. Add HDR on top and it gets overwhelming.

Someone brought this game below to my attention, another great example of this effect. Look at the foliage.... ugh, vomit inducing. It looks absolutely horrific, I'm repulsed by the visuals in the environment and the distance. I'm happy for people who think this games graphics look better than anything else but I have to reckon graphics are at the point where it's not objective anymore, it's subjective. What a disastrous looking game just cause they wanted to add more detail and finer looking foliage, this is like Bloom all over again or hell, it's worse than ailising and even the shimering ailising too. Metaphor refantazio had shimmering ailsing and I got used to after an hour or two but this, yeah, I'm never getting used to it. I'd need a bucket for the vomit if I played it. Perhaps capping the resolution to 1080p or even 720p may get rid of this effect if it becomes prevalent over the next few years.

What game?

At least in VR you never have to worry about this! PSVR2 caps out at 22 pixels per degree, comparable to DVD quality.

Ooh that's out in 7 days, lol no time yet. I bought it at the start if the Ukraine war, war is still going :(

I'll play it in 1080p. But indeed that kind of high contrast ground cover is very exhausting to look at. Not at all how it looks like in real life. I go for a 20K run couple times a week through terrain that currently looks like that, fall cover (minus the buildings and radiation lol) It's far more overgrown than that but doesn't give me a headache looking at it.

Games don't handle looking toward the sun well at all. Very unrealistic look as the terrain is never that dark with bright highlights when walking towards the sun. There is a lot more ambient light scatter in real life. But perhaps they boosted the contrast here to make it 'pop'
