As an owner of both meta quest 3 and psvr2 I can see the benefits of both. I really like the portability of the the quest 3 and its arcade playstyle. Not having a cable is such a huge difference and being able to just play in every room of my house allows me to have quick sessions of smaller games. But the most enjoyable games I have played were on psvr2 with gran turismo or resident evil 4. I hope that the technology will not die in the next few years and I don’t see that happening as long as meta will continue to invest

I ua e the Meta Quest 3 and it nowadays does have an offering that's pretty generous and loads of good games you can play. The medium has matured and it shows from the mid-2010's when most of the released software were just tech demos.

VR-Chat also proves how socially adept the platform can be since it utilizes the strength of VR and software creation with tools for one's expression by creating diverse maps and avatars.

There's isn't anything inherently bad having most of your library consisting of shorter (few hours) experiences if it also nets you more time to also play other games.

VR still has steps to do before entering a phase where it can even consider to rival the current game industry, but it is now there to stay. Meta Quest 2 and 3 have been decent success and I hope they can build off of that in the future with future breaking advancements to make the medium flourish.

Still use VR. I have a PSVR2, Quest 2, and HP Reverb G2. Haven't touched the Quest 2 in a while, but was playing Resident Evil Village with my partner a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time. I often play Skyrim VR using my Reverb too.

Waiting for something with a big resolution and field of view boost to release before I buy a new PCVR headset. But yeah, I'll be buying headsets for life.

My experience with VR is with Oculus Rift DK1, PSVR, HTC Vive and Quest 2.

I've been on Quest 2 for few years now, didn't make the jump to Quest 3, since I didn't find it enough of an improvement, but lately there have been more and more games that are made with Quest 3 in mind, with no support for Quest 2. Still, I doubt I'll make that jump, since I'm waiting for iteration that has eye tracking, but I am definitely sticking with VR and Quest specifically for being best bang for the buck standalone solution (that also doubles as PCVR).

Yeah, I think it's cemented for enthusiasts at this point at the very least, like sim race peripherals but I'd love to see a push to keep console VR alive, PSVR 2 recently got a price cut from 550 to 350, so there's that. It's the perfect middle ground between arcade games and high end PC stuff, just a pity no one will make proper games for it.

It will always be a niche product, never for the masses.
They have been trying to push for it for a very long time and it hasnt happened yet. Of course it is great for a few things but it will most likely always be bulky, heavy, will require you to stay in place and unaware of surroundings. You cant share the experience. Also a lot of people gets dizzy and a lot of times it doesn work well with glasses.
So it will always be there, but as a niche product.

I guess your post is made out of ignorance but ok I'll entertain.

The bulky, heavy or will require to stay in place and unaware of your surroundings is and has already been answered over the latest iterations with significant reductions in weight of newer models or better distribution simply. You are not required to stay in place if you set up your space accordingly to the bounds you setup in the "Guardian" system. Also, VR can be experienced while sitting or even lying in place, it's not just a standing up affair.

You can't share the experience ... Except you can with VR social apps that connects you with others doing the same thing as you or even broadcast your live feed to your friends or family if you wish to show them what's inside.

Not saying it's the best shared experience in person, but honestly, it is definitely in a better place than you and some others are trying to portray with outdated conceptions.

However, it does have to mature further before getting into the larger market, it's undeniable.

In comparison to the console market, the current gen of VR would sit alongside, the NES era.

I tried playing Resident Evil 7 for the first time last year using my Oculus Quest 2. I knew I would dislike the game without VR due to it being a 1st person game.
Unfortunately the VR made me feel sick really fast, so I'm now under the impression that I like VR games even less than 1st person games.

I am very much susceptible to motion sickness in VR.

I've found that the specific game implementation matters a lot. When I first started out I'd get very sick (brink of vomiting) within 5-10 minutes. I found that games that are designed for VR with cameras that have vignette effect, and hand controls (rather than game controller or on-rails) work much better for me. Also putting a fan on me helps too because part of the sickness is moving without feeling airflow which triggers one's brain to feel as if one is poisoned and hallucinating. If it is PCVR, 90fps is the bare minimum. Over time I've been able to get up to 2-3 hours before I'd feel sick and when I do feel sick it is far less severe. Slight nausea vs. immediate feeling of throwing up.

Thanks to the UEVR mod VR gaming will probably never die, even if it stays niche.

So many games which also run great in VR: https://www.reddit.com/r/uevr/new/
