Forums - Gaming - Non Kojima fan (me) playing Death Stranding

Well, people who know a bit about myself probably knows what I think about Kojima. I like Policenauts (even if I think it looks quite rushed) and I played every Metal Gear Solid game, but haven't actually finished any of them. In my vision, Hideo Kojima is a very overrated guy.

But... Since we actually need to know people better before judging them, I decided to give another Kojima game a try. So I got Death Stranding: Director's Cut. And I made this thred to give my opinion on it while I play.

Before moving on, let me show the rules for the thread. You can talk anything about the game, except:

- Spoilers for the plot

- Amount of chapters/missions in the game.

- Length of the game.

You can tell your opinions about game and comment on missions I'm going through. Just don't give me any ideas if I'm close to the ending, or what's left to do. And of course, spoilers for the plot. By the way, I'm playing in Brazilian Portuguese, so some names and stuff may be different from other languages.

Well, I'm on Chapter 2 right now. Well... I'm actually enjoying Death Stranding so far. But not for the gameplay. What I'm loving is the twisted plot and the cinematics. It feels like watching a movie. A good movie.

About the gameplay... I suspect Kojima wasn't thinking too much about that. No, the gameplay isn't bad, but it feels like an excuse to give you something to do between one cutscene and another. I'm playing for a couple of hours and only had two or three deaths, playing on Normal. I disagree that this is a Walking Simulator like some people say. Yeah, you got to walk a lot, but other walking simulators I played had much less stuff going on.

I'll keep playing. I'm interested in seeing how the story will move on.

Let's see if I change my opinion about that guy.

Around the Network

As a non Kojima fan. I recommend trying Snatcher. Policenauts and Zone of the Enders 2.

I went in for the story and actually ended up staying around for the gameplay, it'll open up soon and you'll gain tools that'll create a really solid gameplay loop of trekking across the world to create paths that'll make those treks easier in the future. It becomes really dopamine fueled and incredibly zen. The OST and tone of the game reinforces that. The combat and shooting is what sucks. The story is great, I won't spoil any beats but if you're enjoying it now for the reasons you mentioned you'll love it right up till the end. Just enjoy the experience, tmdon't force your way through the gameplay and see it as an obstacles to the next story beat, take a step back and relax into it, don't rush and I promise it gets fun. I spent over 100 hours to platinum this game and I still wanted to play it further after that which is a rare occurance. Perhaps the graphics won't wow you as much as they did in 2019 and that might be an issue to falling in love with the exploration. The tools you get in the next few chapters will change how you look at the gameplay and walking will become second nature even with a big stack on your back, you'll be hiking and jumping without issue or falling over no problem.

How’s the remaster of Enders 2? I was thinking of picking it up but I’m reading some mixed stuff on it as a remaster

PS4 version is fantastic. Even has a VR mode if into that.
