There is definitely a shift going on though it's also towards PC and not just Nintendo. Mat Piscatella recently said that zoomers and gen alpha are leaning more PC and mobile compared to prior generations and the former makes sense due to the vast majority of big gaming streamers and youtubers using that platform combined with big hits like Lethal Company being only on there while the latter is from the rise of smartphones. If this shift keeps up traditional consoles could very well become an older people thing by the 2030's or so.

Patcher always downplays Nintendo, been doing it for decades now really, obviously it's probably fair to say the Switch is incredibly popular with kids too.

What has changed is the the whole "kid grows up with a Nintendo platform and then by age 14/15 is pushed into Playstation" ... I don't think that is happening anymore to same degree as the 90s/2000s at all and Sony knows this. Nintendo and mobile are eating up kids and changing their gaming habits young and the problem for Sony is these kids are not growing up and abandoning those platforms/IP as they age up.

Nintendo is getting kids when they are young and then locking them in as life long fans that will be a cash cow for them as they move into their teen and adult years.

There are *a lot* of kids I think where the dynamic is --

Mobile is their 50/50 or even lead platform, Switch is actually their "console choice". The Switch is actually filling the need of scratching the itch for these gamers who when they do want something deeper/more complex with a physical controller than mobile games.

There is definitely with this generation (and I'm seeing this first hand) a lot of kids that are fine just playing on Mobile (low level, pick me up games) and Switch (ironically this is where they go for more complex games). It's a changing dynamic.

yea lets' ignore  that PC is about to over take all consoles combined in gaming revenue in a few years. every kid i know owned a switch has moved into PC lol, well except for my nieces but the boys have all moved to PC. they mostly play shooters online together.

Patcher? A big test for how many fans they've got locked in now will be how the Switch 2 does. If Nintendo does things right it should be at least a PS4 level success with strong potential to go higher though considering how their last two successor platforms went I can't be overly confident in that until they announce both the system and its first year lineup.

Guerrilla has commented on bringing the game to Switch:

"It was just a really unique opportunity for us. It was a natural fit for the ambitions that we had. I keep mentioning it, but we want this to be for everyone, and the Switch is really a platform that allows us to broaden the audience. That ethos goes all the way through the game, from the control schemes which are quite simple, [for example] it works on a single Joy-Con, and then also the simplification of the story, the lightening of the themes, the humour – it’s all part of the same ambition."

"Personally, it was my first time, but there were many staff members on the team who had experience developing for the Switch, so there were no special difficulties.

Regardless of the hardware, we wanted to bring “Horizon” to as many people as possible, so we tried to keep the controls as simple as possible. In that sense, it may have been a first for us, but rather than calling it difficult, we took it as a positive opportunity and proceeded with development.

Nintendo has been very supportive of our development on the Nintendo Switch."

Sorry confused Piscatella for Pacther, though Piscatella seems to lean Sony/MS too.

It seems like a win/win.  Nintendo gets a Lego game.  Horizon gets some additional brand building.  Overall looks like a great idea.

I mean Sony is the one that made the decision, almost definitely not Guerilla Games, the publisher calls the shots on anything like this, but nice to hear they're happy about the decision.

Being developed by Guerrilla I wonder if it will run on their Decima engine.
From my nerdy point of view it'd be cool to see it fares on Switch technically, having produced very impressive results on PS4/5.

"“For us, it’s super exciting to make a Nintendo game for the first time, right?” [Lead producer] Symons told me. He said that, rather than make the game for PS5 and scale it down, both versions were made simultaneously. “We do it actually all at the same time, in parallel, so we have a dedicated team of engineers optimizing all this for Switch, but it will be exactly the same.”

Turns out the game is being made on Unreal Engine 5:

Aside from Fortnite which transitioned across a while back, I believe this may be the first Unreal Engine 5 title on Switch.

Previews are also out and seem to be quite positive:

I have no idea why they wanted to make a Lego game because this is not gonna sell on Playstations 5 lol so hopefully it does really well in switch.

I cannot believe we got a Horizon Lego game before a Zelda or a Mario Lego game.

You know it deserves the GOTY.
