I firmly believe that the United States government doesn't care what Israel does. They only care that Israel government officials are saying the quiet part out loud. They openly talk about their genocidal agenda. Words mean nothing, action does. Officials of my countries, the US, say they are "having hard conversations" with Israel. Yet when you look at their actions, they do nothing to stop Israel. In fact, they are doing all they can to stifle any repercussions for Israel at the UN. The only good thing about Israel's government being brazen with their statements is that it has given South Africa ammunition for their case against Israel in The International Court of Justice.

The only people that can stop Israel is Israel.  We can sanction, we can play diplomate, we can voice our concerns at the UN but it really all comes down to Israel.  Anyone believing that the US is going to be the savior of anyone needs to read history.  The US can barely be the savior within their own country let alone outside of their boarders.  What will stop Israel is a concerted effort by the world but the world is divided and thus Israel will always have the green light as long as they do not get overboard with their efforts. The Palestinians have to pretty much pull a Gandhi in order to get the world on their side and even then it might not be enough.

The US imposing sanctions on Israel would definitely put some brakes on the current war situation. And it's mainly the US that's keeping the world divided. Israel has long past going overboard with their efforts. However as long as the US provides diplomatic cover and keeps positioning itself as 'trying to contain the conflict', actively rallying other countries to protect the trade in the Red Sea, Israel will keep on going full speed ahead.

Instead the US does stuff like this

Republicans want to criminalise road closures used to demand Gaza ceasefire

Republican senators want to make non-violent civil disobedience a federal crime because it is being used to call for an end to Israel’s war in Gaza.

Senators Thom Tillis and Marsha Blackburn from North Carolina and Tennessee respectively introduced the Safe and Open Streets Act, legislation that would make it a federal crime “to purposely obstruct, delay, or affect commerce by blocking a public road or highway”, they said in a joint statement. The senators said this comes in “direct response to radical tactics of pro-Palestine protestors who have intentionally blocked roads and highways across the country”.

Netanyahu's government is already showing cracks, people in Israel already demand a change in government. Any slow down in the war will accelerate the change that's needed within. Netanyahu is pretty much hoping for escalation with Lebanon to shift the war there and keep his war cabinet going. He knows he's done as soon as the war is over.

However regionally things can also get a lot worse. Without US backing, Iran, Lebanon and Syria might no longer hesitate to go on their own revenge spree. And since the US is already so concerned about the trade in the Red Sea, they definitely don't want to risk further destabilization and rising oil prices. A fact Israel is most likely using to convince the US to keep giving them full support.

Israel has the US by its balls. Apart from the region about to burst into full scale war, no doubt Israel also has plenty evidence to further implicate the US in the evolving Gaza genocide.

We need to stop calling it settler, every inch of land on this planet has exchanged hands by bloodshed at one point or another, including your Canada.  If the settlers are living in these private lands for the cheaper cost of living, it's no different than the gentrification that happens in every US and Canadian city where the rich move into the land because it's cheap for them, but raise the value of the homes so much that those that already lived there can no longer afford to live there.

The settlers are taking other people's private lands... They're not buying houses from Palestinians for the cheaper cost of living, they are expropriating their lands, demolishing their farms to start new Israeli towns and neighborhoods.

It has nothing to do with gentrification, it's dispossession. Like the European settlers did when arriving in North America.

https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/campaigns/2017/06/israel-occupation-50-years-of-dispossession/

Israel’s policy of constructing and expanding illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land is one of the main driving forces behind the mass human rights violations resulting from the occupation. Over the past 50 years, Israel has demolished tens of thousands of Palestinian properties and displaced large swathes of the population to build homes and infrastructure to illegally settle its own population in the occupied territories. It has also diverted Palestinian natural resources such as water and agricultural land for settlement use.

I actually disagree that its mainly the US keeping the world divided.  The world actually do not like the US as much as Americans like to believe.  What is keeping the world divided is that different countries have different interest in the region but no specific country really cares about the Palestinians.

As you stated, its going to have to be people within Israel that make a real change towards peace for any real traction to happen between the 2 groups.  Yes the US can assist with the move but its the people in Israel holding their government accountable that will be the major shift not externals forces.  The thing is there also need to be a shift within the Palestinians as well.  They need to find someone to really petition not only people within Israel but also Hamas to cease any action.  As long as Hamas continue their action, Israel will always use them as an excuse to continue what they are doing.

Hamas is not in the West Bank though... Israel isn't using Hamas as an excuse for the ongoing oppression of the West Bank for the past 50 years. They are now using Hamas to dehumanize all Palestinians and in that way green lighting more Settler violence in the West Bank.

Hamas has been reacting to the ongoing Settler violence, apartheid and ongoing oppression of and illegal detainment of Palestinians in the West Bank. Their demands are to release all Palestinian prisoners, many of which have never even been formally charged. Hamas is also against the total blockade of Gaza, Israel controlling everything and everyone that goes in and out and not having any self determination of their economy.

As long as the oppression and apartheid continues, there will always be push back. And it will always be easy for another 'party' like Hamas to gain power.

138 of the 193 UN members have recognized the State of Palestine. I wouldn't call that no countries caring about the Palestinians.
https://www.visualcapitalist.com/recognition-of-palestine-map/

(Israel is recognized by 163 countries https://www.visualcapitalist.com/recognition-of-israel-map/ )

But true, hardly any 'Western' countries' governments give a crap about Palestinians.

The US keeps the world divided since countries don't want to go against the US. At least here in Canada that is pretty clear, too much to lose by angering the US. So yes it's out of self interest to follow the US' lead or not make too many waves. (Canada did finally switch their vote against a ceasefire in December)

It's also true that 'the world actually do not like the US as much as Americans like to believe'. Yet those are the people, not the governments.

The US has military bases in at least 80 counties
https://globalaffairs.org/bluemarble/us-sending-more-troops-middle-east-where-world-are-us-military-deployed

As of September 2022, there are 171,736 active-duty military troops across 178 countries, with the most in Japan (53,973), Germany (35,781), and South Korea (25,372). These three countries also have the most U.S. military bases – 120, 119, and 73, respectively.

There are around 750 U.S. military bases in at least 80 countries, though Al Jazeera says the number “may be even higher as not all data is published by the Pentagon.”

Who can the Palestinians petition for change?

As expected

White House says US doesn’t support ceasefire

A spokesperson for the Biden administration reiterated the White House’s opposition to a ceasefire that would end the war between Israel and Hamas, despite growing international pressure and catastrophic humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

Blinken says the charge of genocide against Israel is meritless

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called Israel’s referral to the International Court of Justice for alleged genocide during its war in Gaza “meritless” and said it distracts from efforts to address the humanitarian crisis and prevent the war from spreading.

Doesn't it put the focus on the humanitarian crisis??? The ongoing starvation of Gaza. Isn't the goal to have a ceasefire so humanitarian aid can actually get into and be distributed inside Gaza...

“The charge of genocide is meritless,” said Blinken at a press conference in Tel Aviv on Tuesday. “It's particularly galling given that those who are attacking Israel, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, as well as their supporter of Iran, continue to openly call for the annihilation of Israel and the mass murder of Jews.”

You keep saying that, but the same rhetoric is coming from Israel calling for the destruction of Gaza and mass murder of Palestinians. As well as from some Republican senators in the US. However it's clear who the oppressor is.

‘We must act against threat of genocide’: Belgium deputy PM

Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter says she will propose to the government to follow South Africa’s lead after it filed a genocide case at the ICJ against Israel. “Belgium cannot stand by and watch the immense human suffering in Gaza. We must act against the threat of genocide,” she said on X.

Back to Blinken

Blinken also said that Israel has now agreed to let the United Nations conduct an “assessment mission” to begin the process of allowing displaced Palestinians to move back home.

“As I told the prime minister, the United States unequivocally rejects any proposals advocating for the resettlement of Palestinians outside of Gaza, and the prime minister reaffirmed to me today that this is not the policy of Israel's government,” said Blinken.

I guess that's something although as weak as always. Not that there is much left to go back to. Likely damage:

Israel is expanding its offensive in the South which is already strained beyond the max with no more places for people to go

World Health Organization warns it "cannot afford" to lose hospitals in southern Gaza

The World Health Organization has stressed that it "cannot afford" to lose the remaining operational hospitals in southern Gaza, warning the enclave's health care sector is collapsing at a "rapid pace."

As Israeli calls for evacuations continue to push people to the south of the Gaza strip, the WHO said it has strained the region's already stretched facilities. The region's hospitals are now "bursting with patients" and internally displaced people (IDPs), WHO Emergency Medical Team Coordinator Sean Casey told a press briefing Tuesday.

Only 13 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are partially functioning, and bed occupancy is at 351%, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah.

Casey, who has carried out a number of WHO missions to hospitals in Gaza, described the "intensification of hostilities" around the European Hospital in the southern city of Khan Yunis as "really worrying." "We cannot lose the health facilities. They absolutely must be protected. This is the last line of secondary tertiary health care that Gaza has from the north to the south," Casey stressed.

"We cannot afford to lose any hospital," Richard Peeperkorn, a WHO representative in the occupied Palestinian Territory, said at the briefing.

What is Israel planning next...

Israeli health ministry preps hospitals for mass casualties: Report

The Israeli public broadcaster Kann News reports that the country’s health ministry instructed hospitals to be prepared to receive thousands of additional casualties in a short period of time.

The report by the Israeli outlet underscores the growing possibility of an escalation between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, which Israeli officials have hinted at for the last several weeks.

I know Hama is not in the west bank that is not what I am saying.  It doesn't matter where Hamas is as long as they take action against Israel, Israel will continue to use them for their efforts in the west bank.  Meaning that unless Hamas could actually make a real difference, only thing they are doing is giving Israel free reign to commit the crimes they are doing.  Right now, Palestinians are in such a weak position that their efforts actually is detrimental to any movement towards a balance in the region than anything else.  It makes it easier for other countries to use them either for no action or turning a blind eye.

Not sure if the US having Military bases has anything to do with anyone loving or supporting the US.  The US force those bases in most of those regions and its not really a peace keeping force as its a force for US interest.

Going up against the US in this matter has no real politcal consequences since the US has no reals means of retaliation based on the situation in Israel. If a nation does not do something its because of their own interest or non interest in the region more than anything else.

Movements like Hamas will continue to rise up as long as the apartheid and settler movement goes on. And if it's not Hamas it's the PA and UNWRA Israel will (and already does) blame.

Hamas has accelerated the end game in this 75 year long drama. They can indeed not make a real difference on the ground, however Palestinians have never seen as much support as today. Palestinians have been getting in a weaker position ever since 1948. Hamas fighters all turning themselves in and releasing the remaining hostages would at most turn the situation back to right before October 7th. Except with a lot more hatred from both sides.

Change wasn't coming from within since hasbara made sure Palestinians were never getting any support. It's always been damned if you do, damned if you don't for Palestinians. People from Gaza have tried peaceful protests only to get their knees capped by Israeli snipers.

"It makes it easier for other countries to use them either for no action or turning a blind eye." I disagree. The Palestinian issue is very much back in the news and the global mindshare. From eroded to almost forgotten during the Pandemic and Ukraine war, people are now starting to see what has been going on for decades.

Hamas is also to blame for keeping the conflict going. But what is the alternative? People fight back, people want to be free from oppression. People want to have hope of a better future, not sit out their lives in an open air prison.
https://www.hrw.org/news/2022/06/14/gaza-israels-open-air-prison-15

"Not sure if the US having Military bases has anything to do with anyone loving or supporting the US."

So the US has occupation forces in 80 countries? If those countries didn't want the US there they could politely ask them to leave. Even Iraq rather keeps the US presence there, there at the request of the installed government. If anything, US bases also work as a lightning rod :/

But sure it's not so much loving or supporting the US.

"Going up against the US in this matter has no real politcal consequences since the US has no reals means of retaliation based on the situation in Israel. If a nation does not do something its because of their own interest or non interest in the region more than anything else."

It makes it easier for other countries to point the finger at the US. Other countries face less political (support) consequences with the US green lighting Israel and trying to keep the lid on escalations. So yes, many other counties, including Canada, are fine with the status quo. (I recently signed another petition for Canada to stop the arms trade with Israel, both ways) And they can simply hide behind following the US' lead, or say it doesn't matter what we do since the US will veto and support Israel anyway.

If the US says, enough is enough and actually means it, other countries will also follow. Fact is, other countries follow the US' lead, see the formation of the current Red Sea coalition fleet.

Gaza health system "worse" than expected, says Canadian surgeon after returning from Khan Younis

"You have to decide who you’re going to be saving and who has to be left behind.”

These are the words of a Canadian surgeon who's just returned from Gaza, having spent two weeks working in Khan Younis in the southern part of the enclave. Anas Al-Kassem has detailed the impossible decisions that the last few remaining doctors are having to make, as staff, equipment and supplies run dangerously low amid Israel's offensive.

Al-Kassem told CNN Wednesday that the state of Gaza’s heath system was “worse than what I expected." “I think it is worse than what I expected to be honest with you,” he told CNN’s John Vause, adding that Israeli bombardment in Gaza had been more intense than what he had experienced working in Aleppo during the civil war in Syria.

“The healthcare system was not probably the best because of the siege on Gaza for years,” he said, adding that in the current war “it was at the verge of collapsing and 100% it did collapse.”

A lack of adequate medical supplies has impacted remaining healthcare facilities in the territory, he said. “We have a major lack of equipment, of the medical supplies, you know, CT scan machine, and things like that, let alone the lack of drugs [such as] ... analgesia, antibiotics,” he said, adding that he had to perform stitches on patients without aesthetic so he could conserve it for major surgeries.

On the ground: Israel's siege and severe restrictions on food, fuel and water entering Gaza has crushed the health care system, forcing medical workers to grapple with severely wounded patients in an environment stripped of essential supplies and infrastructure.

Only 13 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are partially functioning, and bed occupancy is at 351%, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah.

In Deir al-Balah, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital reported receiving dozens of casualties from several parts of central Gaza, from heavy air strikes that pounded the area. Further south, where the Israeli military has concentrated parts of its campaign, the World Health Organization stressed it "cannot afford" to lose the remaining operational hospitals.

Israel pushes back on Slovenia claim it has "definitely" breached law in Gaza

Israel pushed back Wednesday at a Slovenian claim that its forces in Gaza had committed “violations of international humanitarian law, violations of humanitarian rights law,” with the prime minister’s office saying “all civilian casualties” were Hamas’s fault.

The Israel Defense Forces “does its utmost to avoid civilian casualties including providing early warning before attack, safe passage corridors and designated safer zones,” the prime minister’s office told CNN.

“This has been particularly difficult because Hamas embeds itself in Palestinian civilian neighborhoods, using Palestinian civilians and Israeli hostages as human shields. That is Hamas’s strategy and the international community should not allow it to be effective. All civilian casualties are on Hamas’s hands.”

Israeli military says it struck more than 150 targets in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Wednesday said it struck more than 150 "terror targets" across Gaza over the past day.

In a statement, the IDF said “dozens of terrorist operatives” were killed by Israeli forces in the southern city of Khan Younis. The IDF said it directed aircraft to target "terrorists" in two separate operations in the area.

Some of the heaviest combat in recent days has been reported in Khan Younis, where there is fighting on the ground as well as regular airstrikes.

15 killed in air strike on Rafah City apartment building

The Wafa news agency reports that at least 15 people have been killed and dozens more injured by an Israeli air strike in Rafah City, southern Gaza.

Earlier, we reported that several people had been killed when an apartment building was hit in the Tel al-Sultan neighbourhood of the city. Medical sources said the bodies have been brought to the Kuwaiti hospital.

“We were bombed tonight while in a house that was crowded with displaced people,” Harb Nofal, a resident of the house that was targeted, said. “There are four women among those killed. What was their fault? What was the fault of the children [who were killed]?”

Five-year-old girl dies of wounds after MSF shelter shelled in Khan Younis

A five-year-old girl was killed after a Médecins San Frontières (MSF) shelter in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis was hit by a “suspected tank shell,” MSF said in a statement Tuesday. MSF says that they cannot confirm the origin of the shell, however “it appears to be similar to those used by Israeli tanks.”

“The shell did not detonate on impact, otherwise many more of our staff and their families would have most likely been killed,” the MSF project coordinator in Gaza, Thomas Lauvin, said. The child, who is a family member of MSF staff, underwent surgery after she was critically injured by the shell and died of her wounds the following day, MSF said.

Three others received minor injuries after the shell broke through the walls of the shelter, which is housing more than a hundred MSF staff and their families, according to MSF. MSF said they did not receive evacuation orders to leave the shelter, despite informing the Israeli army of their location.

“Prior to the incident, MSF notified Israeli forces that the shelter near Gaza European Hospital was housing MSF staff and their families,” the statement said. MSF has contacted Israeli authorities for further explanation, the group said.

When asked about the incident, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told CNN on Tuesday that it is “operating to dismantle Hamas military and administrative capabilities,” and that the IDF “follows international law and takes feasible precautions to mitigate civilian harm.”  Four members of MSF’s staff have been killed since the beginning of the war in addition to multiple family members, MSF said.

Crucial power generators targeted, catch fire in central Gaza

A power generator plant has been targeted in the Bureij area of central Gaza. This plant hosts four major generators used to supply electricity in Gaza.

Because of the intensity of the Israeli strikes, the plant caught on fire, severely damaging all four generators and the physical infrastructure around it.

This will cause further suffering for Palestinians after the war ends. It will make it even more difficult to get electricity, exacerbating the misery and unbearable living conditions across the Gaza Strip.

Building housing generators for field hospital attacked

There is zero guarantee of safety near the International Medical Corps’ field hospital in northern Rafah city.

Right after we finished our first report here, a building right across the street – just 50 metres (164 feet) away – was targeted by a strike. We heard a loud explosion and then saw a cloud of dark smoke. What we learned is that this building, which had been evacuated, had power generators that supply electricity to the field hospital.

This is another reminder that nothing is safe here, not even a field hospital.

Concern for Nasser hospital as Israeli troops push deeper into Khan Younis

We are not seeing any restraint. We are seeing a surge in the sheer level of destruction, particularly in Khan Younis and Rafah city.

In central Gaza, where some of the most intense bombing is taking place, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah is overwhelmed with the number of injured streaming in. The hospital’s services and medical supplies are not enough.

Israel’s military also announced it is expanding ground operations in Khan Younis, not only in the eastern and southern parts, but deeper into the city’s central area. As a result, there is deep concern for Nasser hospital, which is located there.

Death toll in Gaza rises to 23,357

The Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip says that 23,357 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7. At least 59,410 others have been wounded. In the past 24 hours, the ministry said 147 Palestinians were killed and 243 wounded.

About 8,000 are missing under the rubble and presumed to be dead, but are not counted as part of the official death toll.

Gaza Health Ministry: Staff inspected cases resulting from use of banned weapons

The spokesman for the Health Ministry in Gaza says that medical teams have examined cases resulting from Israel’s use of internationally prohibited non-conventional weapons.

“The health system in the Gaza Strip is constantly collapsing in light of the ongoing bombing and the absence of medical aid,” Ashraf al-Qudra said.

He added that the Israeli forces have sentenced 800,000 people to death in northern Gaza as a result of the catastrophic healthcare system in hospitals.

Israeli deputy speaker says ‘Gaza and its people must be burned’

Nissim Vatur, a member of the Likud party, has said “Gaza and its people must be burned”.

“I have no pity for them,” he added in an interview with Kol Barama radio station.

Vatur, a deputy speaker of Israel’s Knesset (parliament), later said in a post on X that he made the remarks for “the elimination of the terrorists who remained in Gaza” as “all citizens were evacuated to the south a long time ago”.

An estimated 800,000 Palestinians have remained in northern Gaza.

Ceasefire calls ‘disconnected from situation on the ground’: US

The US deputy ambassador to the UN, Robert Wood, called it “striking” that nations pressing for an end to Israel’s war on Gaza have made few demands of Hamas after its deadly October attack.

Wood said Hamas should be told to “stop hiding behind civilians, lay down its arms, and surrender”. He also highlighted US efforts to secure a “pause” in the fighting to get 136 Israeli captives out of Gaza.

Who is disconnected from the situation on the ground...

A joke, our news media is a joke.
