Forums - Gaming Discussion - List of Games You've Beaten 2024

Beaten Spiderman Miles Morales. Pulled this out of the backlog, when it released I wasn't ready for more of this Spiderman formula but glad to have picked it up now. It's a fun smaller scale version of Spiderman and it's size is really how Spiderman games should be built, albeit with a longer story. Side content is repetitive but fun, some cool side mission. Combat is fun. The game is brought down however by walking simulator sections, a weak story, weak characters, the same map (I mean how can they change it), repetitive tasks tied to expqnding gear and upgrades and no real reason to progress the story aside from the fun combat and amazing traversal. It's a solid game held up by it's strong core gameplay.. I can't see myself going for more Spiderman for many more years, the formula is just too repetitive and ubisoft like but this was a fun piece now that 6 years have past since Spiderman and it was just the perfect length as I was getting tired of it. A solid 7 out of 10, has all the exaggerated swagger of a black teen.

Beat Nioh 2. Easily one of the most punishing games I've ever played, not in difficulty just punishment for any mistake you make or taking your eye off the ball. This is a game for souls players who are on the more masochistic side, I'm not sure I enjoyed half of it but I can recognise that it's a great game and too keep me hooked to it (50 hours the last 17 days) after time and time again it kicks me in the balls then it's doing things right and hakf the time I was having a blast. It's an odd thing, I never really felt stuck and almost always got a boss dead on the second or third try if not the first and I was always making progress if slowly at times through the levels but death is at every turn and seemingly every few feet if you're not on point at all times. I would consider this in or around 5x harder than Nioh (apart from the double bosses in Nioh late game, those were ruthless) and about 10x harder than team Ninjas more recent Wo Lon Fallen Dynasty. I believe they balanced this for co-op but now fuck all people are online now. I got around half a dozen people to come to my aid and only really needed them the one time on a gimmick boss, so it's woshy washy. One companion that did come to my aid was next level, he showed me where all the collectibles were and didn't miss a thing in a maze like level. Love to see community like that.
Level design is servicable for the majority but it can even become worse than ass at times when the developers think they're being smart, creating a maze and often times mediocre, lots of resued maps on side content which is all very formulaic and not very interesting, both are an excuse to excercise the amazing combat system of the game. Collectibles that influence your game experience and provide you with buffs is a great idea but they are poorly placed and uninteresting. I used a guide from the get go.
All in all, great game albeit I wish they'd have toned down some of the punishment just a tad, it was toeing the line between fun and unfun.
I might stay for a bit of the end game, NG+ deal and see if there's any builds I can get rolling and help some people out online since few else are doing it, but man has it exhausted me.

Witcher 3. So I bought GOTY edition way back when, for like £25. Amazing game, lots to do, decent story although the best bit was literally just witcher contracts.

Replaying again, it's still good but I can see it's flaws... okay flaw, movement is weird. Like Geralt feels like he floats around unless you are running, trying to exactly open a small thing is hard for some reason and the horse? My god, it's an idiot.

This was only PS+ version, not DLC but I've played that. The next gen update adds the outfit and swords from the TV series which is better than most armour and real easy to get and craft.

Also the length of a run is not exactly short when doing as much as possible, while running everywhere. Clocked in at 51hours.

Hmm, pie.

Unicorn Overlord (Platinum)

I beat Unicorn Overlord, my 7th JRPG of the year. I beat this one with the platinum in only 65 hours, a short game compared to most JRPGs. I am beginning to see a bit of a trend here. Anyways at the start of the game after the tutorial, you are given difficulty options. Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard as it should be. But the reality is after doing the playthrough on hard, that I can only imagine Easy is for babies, Normal is easy and Hard is Normal. I really should have just started with Very Hard to begin with as the game was a bit of a cakewalk, similar to The Diofield Chronicle. This game is very similar to that game by the way, while Unicorn Overlord is the more complete game, I preferred the story in The Diofield Chronicle. The JRPG formula changed a bit, in this game you can't directly affect the battle after it has commenced. You can move units around the map freely of course, but your setup is key to destroying the enemy or getting destroyed yourself. As I said earlier this game is more complete, with lots of JRPG things to do, a nice fantasy world with multiple unit types, areas in the world, races/characters to meet and side stories to complete. Overall I enjoyed the experience of course and the Platinum only took an extra hour or two to complete so I recommend completing the Platinum if you do beat this game.
