Just Finished: Sly Cooper and the Thievious Raccoonus (as part of the Sly Cooper HD Collection) (PS+)
Never played a Sly Cooper game before, so the original game seemed like the best place to start. Of the three major PS2 platformer franchises, I always preferred Ratchet. I'm glad i finally gave Sly a chance though. It play most list the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy, which I loved. I really dug the Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic of the story and visuals. Sly is a pretty cool character though he tries to hard to seem edgy as an honest thief. The minigames could be a tad annoying but the core platforming gameplay is rock solid. I had a good time making my way through the levels, which featured some light stealth elements. I think I would have dug this game when I was younger, I certainly could appreciate it now. The cel shaded graphics hold up well enough. The combat sucks. I did not unlock most of the special skills. The boss fights were also hit and miss. Overall though, I dug this adventure and will definitely check out the sequels down the line.
Score: 8/10
