Everyone is panicking, since kids are on the mobile and PCs...some just hide it better.

This exactly. But also still on PS5 since playing online together still just works better on a console or PC.

Both my kids have ditched the Switch for PC and PS5 gaming. Some mobile as well but my oldest has an older phone, youngest no phone yet.

It's not the power or quality of the Switch, my youngest and his nephew play on old laptops together so they can sit side by side while playing their online games together. Performance is not a deal breaker, online functionality is for kids.

Got to have your you tuber an alt-tab away and Discord running while playing. My oldest has his phone and laptop next to him while playing online on PS5. Kids can't handle the single screen experience anymore!

Yeah - I have no statistics, just my observations over longer period of time, but my kids, growing up, were pretty much in tiny minority that played Nintendo games among their peers - and that's only cause I introduced them to Zelda early in their lives.
These days, among my wife and me, I have 5 kids, and only one plays Nintendo games regularly (just recently got Switch 2 for him), all other are PC and mobile. Sure, it's anecdotal, but all their friends are pretty much the same - PC and mobile, with occasional PS, XB or Switch.

Nintendo is maybe in slightly better position than the others when it comes to younger demographics (though I have my doubts), but they are all faltering so far.

153 million Switch 1 systems + record breaking launch of Switch 2 tells me Nintendo is not the one losing sleep over anything. Nintendo could easily have 160+ million Switch 1 units too if they really wanted it via a price cut. No one else is moving game hardware at the volume they are moving it at. Switch 2 is going to shred the PS5 for yearly sales while giving Sony a 6 month headstart on the year for example, that's bonkers.

Sony and MS are the ones rushing to put their games on other platforms, that is more telling. If anything Nintendo has backed off smartphone games and aren't supporting that so much anymore, whereas 10 years ago it looked like they were locking that in as a big part of their future. They found more success through the hybrid concept of the Switch.

The Mario movie and theme park expansions have been massively successful too and I said this before the Mario Movie (I called that it would be a big hit) ... that Zelda movie if the script is even half decent is going to do monstrous business. Nintendo is going to be the next MCU IMO.

You views are very...narrow and shortsighted.

DF definitely have their niche, and I for one enjoy their content.

My point is more that they come at things from the perspective of graphics enthusiasts; there's nothing with that, as that's their target audience. The average consumer is somewhat less focused on graphics however, so a lot of things that DF find to be serious problems, like a game using FSR instead of DLSS, just isn't an issue to most players, especially on a system like Switch 2 where people know they're not getting a high end device and care more about portability than performance.

Again, this doesn't invalidate DF, I just doubt things that bother those guys will be a dealbreaker for most Switch 2 owners.

I actually disagree in the sense that most switch owners own another platform... So it's a natural part of their decision making to weigh up where they want to play a game and whether a games quality on Switch makes it worth a double dip.

This doesn't invalidate the Switch 2 version or mean it's a deal breaker for everyone but it does shift significantly the player base. I think this matters less to games that are significantly able to sell to children though.

For sure DF is graphic focused in a way that doesn't reflect the average consumer, but the gulf in these very ambitious ports is definitely understood by most the audience.

Again we see this in consumer behaviour. Games that play and look especially well on Switch 1 sell much better on it and actually sometimes outsell the PS5 and PC versions, because people know they are not suffering any huge compromise. It's a very holistic experience of knowing something is well suited to the platform, so not anything as specific as "Switch 2 version has too much disocclusion fissile or bad frame pacing".

Again, this isn't about validating/invalidating a port, but simply DF is not being out of touch highlighting the struggle of Outlaws. People made it seem like they spent 15mins complaining about something very niche and attacking the worthiness of the Switch 2 hardware.

Series x and p5 had shortages for almost 2 years so Switch 2 selling out with Mario kart it's biggest franchise is no surprise. As long es they have the stock it will be sold out till they hit 10 million.

We'll see who's right.

Nintendo's sales numbers speak for themselves, and they're not the ones going multiplatform anywhere, if anything they're even scaling back the concession they made about 10 years ago to make smartphone games because those games haven't matched the success they have found with the Switch.

Once the Switch 2 generation is done, IMO no one in the history of the business is ever going to see that much console volume in two back to back generations (PS1 + PS2 is going down). Their big franchises in many cases are also having record breaking sales ... Zelda has never been bigger than it is now. Mario Kart has never been bigger than it is now. Smash Brothers has never been bigger than it is now. Animal Crossing has never been as big as it is now. 3D Mario on Switch is bigger than its ever been. Pokemon is quite at absolute peak, but it's up from even the DS era.

If people cared strongly about high end graphics then they wouldn't buy a Switch 2 in the first place as it is well known to be mid-range portable tech.

The DF guys are tech enthusiasts, most of the general audience is not; John for instance got annoyed by Donkey Kong Bananza using FSR rather than DLSS, but I'd bet money that 90% of DK's audience couldn't even tell you what DLSS or FSR are.

I love DLSS and know what it is, but even I don't give a fuck about this issue, lol. DK Bananza looks great with a very nice and clean image quality to my eyes. I don't really care if its FSR or DLSS, FSR is likely just because it started development on Switch 1.

While my immediate surroundings might suggest that Xbox is dominating the German market—with 7 out of 9 teens I know preferring it—statistics reveal a different global picture. In Europe, PlayStation and PC gaming are clearly leading overall. Nintendo, although likely in third place here with weaker performance in Eastern Europe but still significant in Western markets, has secured a stronghold unchallenged in the Japanese market. The US market sees intense competition among all four platforms. Notably, Xbox has been losing ground recently but is simultaneously bolstering the PC gaming sector.

The higher sales numbers for the Switch can be attributed to many households owning multiple units or replacing defective ones with newer iterations or the OLED model. That's a lot less the case for stationary consoles. The portability factor of the device also leads to more breaking consoles.

I understand when John is coming from - I find Bananza on TV to be quite jarring on the edges at times...surprisingly, as they also noted, it looks quite fine in handheld mode. But those shadows that Oliver pointed out really look bad anyway you take it.

That said, they are doing their jobs - Persona 3 has no RT reflections, and they pointed that out. Which is strange, we have upcoming Outlaws that is nothing but RT lighting, and there you have Persona in something that can probably be treated as "lazy" port from PS4. So maybe fans that are interested in that stuff can make a stink with Atlus about it, while there's still time before it launches - and in some way, I guess Oliver did called them on out on that.
