As expected, my personal favourite is gone now, but of the games remaining FFVIII is the best one. I consider it roughly on par with VI and VII in the series, and my answer to which one of them is the best can change on a daily basis, though all three are still behind a IX and X in my opinion. Regardless, all are in my all-time top 20 favourite games, and as such the choice in the runoff vote is a very easy for me.

None of my favourites are in the run-off, so of those, I'd say Age of Empires II.

With Shenmue gone, I pledge my blade to FF8 :)

Oh, of course MM8 is among my favorite games of 2000, but I think I will pick Diablo II as a nr 1.

For me MM7 and MM6 are the best games of all time. It's hard to compare games with different genres, from different systems and decades, but when I think about my favorite game, the first game that comes to my mind is Might and Magic VII.

Might and Magic VI and VII are one of my favourite games, but I think it was all down the hill after VII - they wanted them on a yearly basis, and, as it's always the case with publishers pushing for yearly releases, quality suffered. Pity Ubisoft got a hold of the IP, and it's s(h)itting on it, doing nothing.

I actually prefer VIII, probably because of the unusual classes/races the game has. I mean, name another game where you can have a party consisting of a Troll, a Dark Elf, a Vampire, a Minotaur and a freaking Dragon?

The thing I dislike most about VIII is the balancing (Vampire useless, Minotaur borderline too, Dark Elf busted, Dragon super busted), but that was already an issue with the two ones before (Not much of a point getting a warrior in VI while the Thief and Cleric are overpowered in VII and the Ranger absolutely useless).

John Van Canegem should never have sold his company to 3DO, and he never got what he made the deal for in the first place (an MMORPG, yes he was dreaming of it in 1994 already!).

With Rollercoaster Tycoon gone (and no Everquest) my vote goes to my 3rd favorite, Age of Empires 2. Best of the series and prettiest isometric game there is. Homeworld brought the innovation and I would love to play a modern version, yet AoE2 worked better and I'm more of a fan of base building which Homeworld lacks. Plus AoE2 stood the test of time, original Homeworld needs work.

From this section of games in the runoff, there really ain't much left for me. I gave it to AoE II, but that one is pretty far down my list of favourite games already

I'm still with Pokemon.

I missed the original entries. Nothing here for me on this list. I would have voted for a Dreamcast game, for sure.

I do remember VIII having "weird" races, but I remember it being weaker overall than VII and VII. It was such a long time ago though, I really wish I had the time to replay them all, but I remember, back in the days, it was taking me forever to complete them, especially with all the mapping of towns by hand (though I guess all the maps are available now on net, but that would feel like cheating).
