Forums - Sony - PlayStation |OT| Playing Astro Bot on the Horizon Until Dawn

Of course they are still going to make live service games. They count Marvel TOKON as live service, Helldivers 2 was live service. GT7 is under that umbrella now too.

The issue was never they were making live service but the amount they were making and how unappealing some of them were. Not every studio should be making them and they shouldn't be trend chasing.

Live Service covers a wide variety of games, they just need to stop chasing the extraction shooter / hero shooter BS.

Yes there will be a Helldivers 3 at some point, there will be a GT8, there will be more games like Marvel TOKON.

I wouldn't mind a Twisted Metal game that is on going and gets constant new updates. That game is perfect for a live service platform instead of forcing god of war or horizon to it.

There's no reason for Sony to stop developing live service games. 40% of their first party revenue came from live service games last FY.

Maybe not as many at once like Jim Ryan envisioned. But when you have new staples in Helldivers 2 and potentially Marvel Tokon, with games like MLB The Show and GT7 being longstanding franchises that print money, its not entirely as disastrous as some are painting. Marathon underperformed but the game itself has good reviews. The same thing could be said for Saros. Even Sons of Sparta, a type of game that a lot of the fanbase wants Sony to do, reviewed really poorly and "stains" the franchise from its high critical standards.

The discourse for live service, especially when it comes to Sony, unfortunately will not be viewed from a rational POV from the majority of users that discuss it. You have people rooting for them to fail, celebrating when they do, then blame Sony for it and try to be sympathetic about people losing their jobs.

Helldivers 3 will have nothing to do with Sony, tho, and that's their most successful one.

The studio that had, by far, the best chance of having a success on a liveservice game is literally being killed by it right now, Destiny 2 later years and Marathon release has gotten Bungie to half their size of years ago and with no actual new promissing game in the horizon.

I have no clue which other studios would be a good choice to let keep doing liveservice games. Gran Turismo is considered one but it's far from it, I have 600 hours in GT7 I must have spent only 5 of those driving online, it's a massive single player game and a liveservice game on top of that.

An Astrobot (spinoff with) live service game (elements)

Popular IP + Budget doesn't need to be crazy.

Only thing that could be bad that they will use the game to push AI Integration

Sony own the IP, not arrowhead. Whether another Helldivers game is made by arrowhead as a second party again, or another developer, it'll be a Sony game.

I remember reading Arrowhead wanted to do a game of their own, as in self publish it, so yeah, probably not Arrowhead making it.

I was assuming the game would be Helldivers 3 because I thought it was theirs, so thanks for the info.
