Forums - Website Topics - Website Development / Feedback / Suggestions / Bug Reporting Thread

Since the last thread was f*cked by the hacker and had half its posts deleted, along with information on bug fixes and whatnot, I thought we might as well start fresh, I've made the decision to recreate it since Talon isn't around to do so himself, if he returns then he can create another one so this could be temporary but I wanted a place for now to store suggestions, bug fixes, etc. Until hopefully the time comes where we get more support.

I'll be real with you though, I can't promise that everything with be dealt with, all we have at the moment is one Admin coder but in case that changes I'll create a handy table here for peoples suggestions and maybe for some more critical fixes, Bandorr can fix them in the immediate future. I've also a personal interest in creating this thread, I wanted to run some of my own ideas not discussed with other Admins to gauge community reactions.

Still a bug.  I'm on mac os.  This is the way the chart always labels for me.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

That's the problem.

I'm sure everyone knows by now but in case anyone is expecting them to come back, I was informed already a few weeks back that the 700,000+ lost forum posts and however many wall posts won't be returning due to the complexity of the issue, I'm sure everyone already guessed as much since it has been months now but in case anyone is still holding out hope, best to kill that hope.

It sucks, especially since it primarily affected recently active users, it also leaves us with a number of issues, from threads missing their OPs or dozens, if not hundreds of comments, to users walls having missing comments in conversations, a few pieces of data vanished for important threads and Mod history is totally fucked for some users because it now links to either the wrong post or nothing.

I've had an extreme idea running around in my head which I've not discussed with anyone else seriously of just blanket resetting the forums, clearing everyone's post history, clearing all threads, starting from 0 posts, 0 wall comments, 0 threads, 0 points, etc. For everyone, including giving everyone a fresh start in their Mod history as well but Perm'd users remaining Perm'd.

Probably way too extreme of a reaction, I'm just a person who both likes fresh starts and hates knowing there is a big mess somewhere and I definitely constantly feel like there's a big mess on the forums now, Lol. Lost my Community OT. God knows what Community threads anyway, OP of PS Nation is still missing, Rules list is missing, a lot of data from the previous Website Development thread is deleted, etc.

Don't panic anyone who hates the idea, I haven't even discussed it with any Admin, I don't even know if it's feasible, I'm speaking as a user here.

I think I prefer the idea of just rebooting any of the major threads that got borked, rather than resetting the whole site. Alot of people have spent alot of time building up their Gamrconnect score, imagine Spurgeon Ryan's reaction if he came back and saw all of his 800,000+ points missing. I assume a reset would reset the entire Game Database too.

This. If I weren't on staff then having everything attached to my account reset would cause me to leave. I've spent years slowly catching up to oliist in points xD

Any major threads that are still active and which still have borked OPs or fully deleted OPs should definitely be recreated (potentially with help from Wayback Machine or similar sites, to retrieve the OP if it would be difficult to recreate).

Regarding your last sentence, the GameDB would not be impacted.

Fair, I was sure the idea would be disliked, I know I can be weird about this stuff, Lol.

Would anyone be opposed to be going through the Hot Topics and locking some of the dead threads in favour of promoting more active ones?

As an example, do we need the Mafia threads open still? Do we need the OTs which haven't been posted in for 10 years? I can recreate my Community Thread and store them there as a handy look but I don't know if anyone needs to be able to comment in them anymore?

I'll need to go through anyway to see what is still broken and what isn't so I can see if anyone is willing to recreate.

just shut down the site and use installbase

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

If everything on my account was reset then I’d straight up just blacklist the site and never use it again.

Then it wouldn't be worth doing.

Throw that idea in the trash.

Guess I'll find and clean-up what I can.
