Forums - Movies & TV - Velma Renewed for Second Season -_-

I just laughed after reading this thread :D
Not because the idea of grown men getting worked up over cancelled cartoons and Velma is funny. But because some of the angriest in this thread are the very loudest cheerleaders for the very sort of corporate action that leads to this sort of shit. The reason these cancellations are a symptoms of conglomerate who grew via mergers and acquisitions. They will cancel your programs just to make a show to shareholders that they’ve made cost cutting moves and are refocusing their strategies for increased future profits.

I know someone’s going to come in here and give me an earful of how 2 trillion USD valued big tech conglomerate is still not big enough, and should be allowed to buy up more and more companies, including the largest third party in the Console Gaming industry. Because apparently you’ve bought the PR, believe Microsoft are benevolent, and would never cut costs, programs, budgets, and staff to make a show to shareholders the way other conglomerates do.

That was more explanation than I wanted to give to explain why this thread is funny :D

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Watched it bc I thought it'd be an interesting take on Scooby Doo. I was disappointed, it just sucked. Season 2's numbers will drop by a lot if the writing doesn't improve, I don't think hate watchers will be back like they were in season 1.

Doubt the writing will improve anyway. Those aren't writers, they're wannabe feminists, just like Mindy Kaling is a wannabe Velma. The only good parts of the show have been "Velma" getting hurt.

Probably people watching it just to see how bad it is.
I haven't even done that, as it sounds terrible. Velma is being an assole towards everyone, etc.

Just inore it and hopefully more people do that this season, and it'll go away.

How can we when it's so in our face? -_-

In our face, how?  Without this thread I wouldn't even know it existed.  But now I am interested to give it a try to see how bad it is.  Thanks mate.

Because we see it everywhere. EVERYWHERE. -_-

Oh, and for the record, if Mindy Kaling is reading this, we don't hate HBO Velma for her race, we hate her because she's a total bitch.

Probably to some extent, there was always a plan for 2 seasons, maybe even 3 if axum is to be believed.

Probably especially for animation, where it sometimes take quite a while to get a full season out. That way if it ends up being big, they have the next season ready in 8 months instead of 30 or something. There are some shows that somehow seem to put out 20 episodes a year, and others that really seem to struggle putting out 10 episodes in 2 years. Probably helps to prevent that situation.

For the popularity, I'm sure a lot of people checked it out because they were curious or hate watched it, or just had nothing else to watch.

To some extent, the hatred towards the show is a bit overstated. It's a very bad show, but it's not the worst thing that has ever come across a television. At least from what I've seen.

I watched the first 3 episodes, was curious what they would do with it.

It just felt like they were tripping over themselves to make bad jokes and metacommentary. None of which was very funny or interesting; all while majorly changing the characters in ways that don't add to their appeal.

Even Be Cool, Scooby-Doo didn't ever get this shitty.

Presuming that the show is worse than you think, I don't see the point in letting this affect you.

Bad shows: exist. Just don't watch them. Plenty of others to become invested in.

Perhaps it's just me, but I'm observing a trend where more people are talking about entertainment that they don't like, when it's so much more interesting to hear about what they enjoy.

Never watch a bad show out of morbid curiosity, or just to hate-watch it. As far as the studio heads are concerned, a viewer is a viewer is a viewer. The reasons they viewed it don't matter.

Also, David Zaslav still sucks.
