The boycotting of Hogwart's Legacy because of JK Rowling just seems like virtue signaling for the most part. There are a multiple of companies from Lego, Universal Studios, WB etc. that pay Rowling exorbitant amounts of money to license her IP. Yet these outlets weren't boycotting those companies. Outlets like TheGamer review WB published games all the time. Hogwart's Legacy was low hanging fruit used for virtual pats on the back from social media.
The same people that decry bullying and hate speech, bullied and harassed people that played Hogwart's Legacy. They even set up a website to identify people that streamed the game for the express purprose of harrassing them. I see many of those same outlets and people complaining about the reaction to Dragon Age Veilguard. They are pointing to activities, that they did themselves around Hogwart's Legacy release, as deplorable like we didn't see what they were truly about last year. Outlets review bombed Hogwart's Legacy but are quick to deride people for review bombing games they support. It's a big dog and pony show that, by in large, is being put on by disengenous people looking for social media validation.
