Looks closer on the graph than I was expecting in Europe, but looking at the figures I think it will still be 6-7 months before Switch closes the gap with Wii there.

During the 2023 holidays though Switch should overcome Wii's lifetime total as well, worst case 35m total for Switch (though I am expecting more like 37m)



Around the Network

We're at the point now where the Wii's momentum was exhausted, so Switch only has to continue cruising to overtake in the few areas where it hasn't already.
Still some milestones yet to be conquered, but that gives us some nice charts still to watch.

Switch vs PS3 Sales Comparison in Europe - December 2022

This monthly series compares the aligned European sales of the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 3.

The PlayStation 3 launched in Europe in March 2007, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

Switch Vs. PS3 Europe:

Gap change in latest month: 296,375 - Switch

Gap change over last 12 months: 823,328 - Switch

Total Lead: 4,758,886 - Switch

Switch Total Sales: 30,752,303

PS3 Total Sales: 25,993,417

December 2022 is the 70th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in Europe. During the latest month, the Nintendo Switch has grown its lead over the PlayStation 3 by 296,375 units.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the PlayStation 3 by 0.82 million units. The Switch is currently ahead of the PlayStation 3 by 4.76 million units.

The 70th month for the Nintendo Switch in Europe is December 2022 and for the PlayStation 3 it is December 2012. The Switch has sold 30.75 million units, while the PlayStation 3 has sold 25.99 million units during the same timeframe. The PlayStation 3 did not reach current Switch sales until month 119.

The PlayStation 3 sold 30.87 million units in Europe during its lifetime. The Switch needs to sell another 0.12 million units to catch up to the lifetime sales of the PlayStation 3.

Well, there it is. With January's numbers, Switch will have outsold PS3 in Europe.
For a Nintendo system, it has performed quite impressively in Europe, given the brand's roots don't run as deep there as they do in America or Japan.
