Funny thing is I deleted Gemini off my phone and turned off as much of the AI stuff as I could.

I don't really get why it's a problem to say AI will amount to nothing but it's not a problem for how much OpenAI/Microsoft hype it up, Lol. Both are extremes. I've always been near the middle-ground, but one thing I won't budge on is AGI, Lol. I've been hearing that is around the corner for years and AI is still spitting out stupid answers, getting basic shit wrong, easily manipulated and very clearly an AI chatbot, Lol. AGI specifically is a marketing gimmick, I expect the goalpost will be moved to "achieve" it but real AGI won't arrive until long after I'm dead, if it's even possible. We aren't getting to that "utopia" anytime soon.

AI is not a fad or craze. It's not going away. It is not an either this or nothing. All businesses, homes and individuals will have AI incorporated into everything moving forward. It is going to be essential into moving civilization into a new technological era. Learning how to incorporate it better with the least amount of pain is essential, but there will be pain.

AI has a HUGE problem it needs to address, the absurd (and fast growing) amount of water and energy their servers need to keep running. The AI companies' answer to that has been to just suck it up and keep feeding them more water and energy, but that's not sustainable, it will reach a limit in a not so distant future, and they will have to figure out how to make AI much more sustainable for the technology to really stay.

I do think they'll be big changes, but not as world changing as Microsoft and OpenAI and that moron Sam Altman promise.

It is also not the salesman trying to get me to buy into his product by telling me what drastic of an impact it will have that worries me, it is the scientists and engineers who work(ed) with it and their warnings that concern me. People like Geoffrey Hinton and others.

And with that you have the proof that we are not 5 minutes to 12 on climate disaster as EU politicians are claiming. Not if at the same time they promote AI and 5G (which is also more energy consuming than 4G) and keep on expanding datacentres and digitalization. This is a huge political hypocrisy at least in my country (Netherlands).

Well, AI consumes a lot but it will help to reduce energy and water consumption "everywhere" else.

That's the worst part: yes, we are, politicians feed us lies about caring about the climate crisis, while they can't even take seriously the Paris agreement, it's the same old dance we've all been dancing for the past many decades.

Everywhere else where? At the offices since they will be empty because everyone will be replaced by AI?

No, optimization doesn't only mean reducing employees obviously. Companies, households and Gouvernements also use it to optimize other cost factors as well and energy/water consumption are cost factors

Or AI used to find new combinations of material to reduce the usage of seldom/toxic material.
