my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

Am late but finally posted my first 2 entries to the list. A fair bit has changed this year and I actually have 9 dropouts from last years list

  • Super Mario Sunshine (LY #49)
    • Still a very fun game but unfortunately just got kicked off because I played quite a few new things this year that booted it off. Still a great 3D Mario tho!

  • Resident Evil (LY #47)
    • This is the early 2000s remake of the game and another one that was just booted off bcuz of new entries. Definitely not one of my favorites of the series but very charming and well done

  • Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (LY #46)
    • I actually replayed the Uncharted games this year and while weirdly this one did actually *grow* on me just a little bit, it is definitely the weakest in the series. The little horror bit still slaps tho

  • Superhot VR (LY #45)
    • I had just acquired a VR headset last year and that definitely boosted some of these games higher than they should have been lol. Still a very fun game, probably my favorite I've played on a headset, but def not on my top 50 anymore

  • Halo 3 (LY #42)
    • Another mainly just booted bcuz of new entries. Unfortunately never quite got into this franchise the way many others did but it twas a fun little campaign to go through with friends

  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf (LY #41)
    • Left because of new entries and honestly just didnt make enough progress in this game to justify it being here. Really loved my time with it back when I got it, liked it much more than New Horizons, but would need to spend more time on it to justify it making the list

  • Stardew Valley (LY #40)
    • My answer to the last one x10. I *really* think this would be high on the list if I just spent more time with it, I really loved what I played, but I never made nearly as much progress as I wanted and I couldn't justify putting it on the list again. Hopefully it can make it back next year

  • FNAF: Help Wanted (LY #37)
    • A fnaf interest and VR adrenaline reaaallly boosted this one last year because yea it doesnt belong here at all lol. Fun game, maybe the best in the series? But it's def hit or miss in the different sections and really only excels in the first game's remake

  • Crash Bandicoot (LY #26)
    • Gonna be honest I have no idea how this was that high last year. Fun game, still my favorite of the trilogy but it definitely is not on my list anymore lol.

As for my #50 and #49...

#50

My childhood favorite game. Will probably always hold my #50 for nostalgia value alone cuz its the first game I ever rly got into. The Woody's Roundhouse sandbox mode I spent so many hours in as a young kid, and I will always cherish this game too highly for it to not make the list

#49

Finally got around to this one this year! And while it honestly doesn't quite match Asylum for me, it is very fun to glide around Arkham City, and even though the story is kind of a mess, the ending of this game is undeniably fantastic and holds it a spot at least for this year

#46: This game features frequent commentary from a DJ on the radio.

The last two sound a bit like a Fallout game... New Vegas?

No, never played a Fallout game, never even had a platform I could play it on.

Caddicarus did a video about pixar games and made Toy Story 3 look REALLY good. I definitely have interest in it some day, some how. I think it's on the PS+ Premium Tier. Lemme check!

#49: Luigi's Mansion 2 (3DS)

Since nobody guessed it and I'm gonna be very busy the next few days I'm posting this here now.

Here's a link to my post about this game from last year.

https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=9337616

Why did it drop off from #38 to #49? Mostly because of the big number of new entries on my list above LM2 but also because my nostalgia for this game isn't quite as strong.

Still love it though. Should replay it some time soon.

#48: You're a bit to loud.

#47: This game features a section where you get enslaved and need to run in a wheel to generate electricity to work off your debts.

#46: Crashing into a wall is fun in this game.

Hint set 2:

#48: You're making people nervous.

#47: This game features a section where you get killed and sent to the underworld.

#46: You always listen to the radio.

Hint set 3:

#48: There are tons of cheesy quotable lines in this game that a certain group of people constantly say.

#47: A boss in this game transforms into a spider.

#46: This game features frequent commentary from a DJ on the radio.

Hint set 4:

#48: "I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee." "No lollygagging!"

#47: A perspective change is a central game mechanic in this game.

#46: You need to destroy at ton of billboards.

General hint: All games on my list are on Nintendo systems and most of them are Switch games.

My #50 is Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu / Eevee (NS) and #49 is Fable 3 (X360)

Hints:

  • 48 - A space RPG that has a name nearly identical to another game released in the same year
  • 47 - A shooter with a pair of villains that were so annoying it IMO nearly ruined a great game.
  • 46 - A racer that has its rights (I think?) split between Nintendo and Microsoft.
