Forums - Sales - Splatoon 3 sells 3.45 million at launch in Japan (shipped + digital)

Will Splatoon 3 outsell Splatoon 2 (13.30m) worldwide?

Yes 55 90.16%

No 6 9.84%

Total:61

I wonder how much of that is digital.
Splatoon 2 sold 4.1 million physical and 1 million digital, which is only about 20% of sales.

And just like that, Splatoon 3 became the highest-selling game ever in Japan within a 3 day period. The switch is going nowhere anytime soon and Splatoon 3 proves that the Switch still has a very healthy future ahead of it.

So basically it sold as much as Splatoon did on the Wii U in Japan in total on day one and outsold it's predecessor within 3 days? WTF???

OMG what the?!

That's insane. Completely destroyed Japan's all time launch sales record?!

That's truly unbelievable. I figured it'd do a million or maybe 1.5m launch week, given that it's the second Splatoon on the system and seems to just be more of the same good stuff rather than a huge upgrade from Splatoon 2. Splatoon is now a mega series in Japan of the highest order. Now it makes more sense why Switch HW went up so much just for the Splatoon colored system - they're obsessed with the series!!

So it should very quickly enter the top tier of Switch games in Japan (AC, Smash, MK8D, Sw/Sh, Splat2). It might pass MK8D and Smash by end of year to only trail AC, depending on how its legs are the next few months. Wonder if it will do over a million this week.

I wonder what global launch numbers were...like 6-7 million or something??

Yes it does seem like Japan is obsessed with Splatoon just how America is obsessed with Call of duty and how Europe is obsessed with Fifa, lol.

Now I wonder what does this spell for this week hardware sales. Usually, such incredible software sales will probably correlate in really high hardware sales as well

It will sell out.

Hopefully Nintendo had a bunch of systems on shelves this week. Would be cool to see 200k HW sales this week.

Nintendo should do more of what they did with Splatoon and BOTW ... putting their own spin on modern genre conventions ... BOTW took Skyrim style open world and put it into Zelda, Splatoon is Nintendo's take on online shooters.

Splatoon was my favorite game on Wii U and one of my favorite Nintendo franchises, I think this also shows a younger generation of Nintendo fans is probably driving some of these sales, this IP is very popular in Japan among teenagers.

Wow, very impressive. I was kind of thinking a second Splatoon game on the Switch seemed too early. Nintendo really like to do one entry per franchise per console. Turns out I was way wrong.

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)
Mobile - Super Mario Run (2017)
PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

That's very quick! I wonder how much it sold at the rest of the world.
