Again though, why would Splatoon 3 specifically push people to buy a new Switch? It's not like the game heavily focuses on things the OLED does better like visuals. |
Ok I see where your getting at, but also ask yourself the same question to the 2.3mil people who bought an oled model for Metroid/Pokemon Bdsp and PLA! Here is another reason why people will upgrade to oled that owned splat3. What year did splat3 release? 2017. The first 3mil-4mil sold for splatoon2 are people who had bought a nsw in 2017/2018. These are people with systems that are 4-5years old. Do you think that not even 10% of them would upgrade to an oled that will be an invest for them for the next 2-3 years of splat3 support? There is no direct or correct way to answer your question, but hypothetically and imo my thoughts on the matter at least showcase that splat3 will push alot of oled consoles. Hell you will see it with your own eyes after a month or 2 after splat3 releases. All you have to do is watch oled only numbers and compare. |
The problem is Oled offers only a better screen and more memory (which can be brought with SSD cards anyway). It does not offer a substantially more powerful hardware or any feature that standard model lacks
The big number of 3DS SKUs you are bringing were basically phased out once the newer SKU was released, others were versions without the useless 3D function and therefore less expensive. The reason to buy those models were significantly more appealing than just a better screen
OLED as a revision is not such a big step forward in comparison with OG model
Your argument about OG model being a 2017 release and needing a replacement is better. Historically handhelds are more likely to be purchased twice because they are much less resistant and much more accident prone. Also battery life being deployed and joycons drifting can make playing games a nightmare, so another reason to buy a new console that seems to have at least more 2 years of support
