According to the latest Famitsu estimated physical sales report, Minecraft has finally passed Momotaro to become Nintendo switch best selling third party game in Japan.

This is where they at  as of Week 23, 2022 - (30th May - 5th June)

06./05. [NSW] Minecraft # (Microsoft Game Studios) {2018.06.21} (¥3.600) - 7.617 / 2.663.165 <80-100%> (+5%)

17./19. [NSW] Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! (Konami) {2020.11.19} (¥6.300) - 2.209 / 2.663.054 <80-100%> (+3%)

Monster Hunter Rise is at around 2.38 millions. The Sunbreak expansion is releasing in about 2 months. Can the Sunbreak expansion Give it enough of a boost to challenge these two?

Yes. Sunbreak will give it the boost it needs to challenge them but in the end Minecraft will win.

Pretty sure Minecraft is the most popular foreign game overall in Japan. I think it's part of the reason Game Pass and Xbox are picking up in Japan (though you can play Minecraft on tons of platforms).

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Momotaro was over 3.5mil last year already with digital, but Monster Hunter Rise with digital is at over 3.8mil. It was at 3.5mil when MHR topped 7mil worldwide and sold a good deal more since then.
Since Minecraft is way cheaper and was digital only the first year, it's almost certainly way higher though with digital.

If you're only talking about physical maybe specify that.

It's very interesting to see Youkai Watch so low on the list, considering it was near Pokemon sales back in the 3DS days. Level5 really burnt off the series too fast...

Pretty sure Minecraft with Digital must be more than 4m, also Sunbreak is out in just over two weeks not months.
