Nah if Sony decides to ship 200k next week it would sell out too. I don't think switch can sell 200k even if there's no oled shortages which I don't think there is

I'm very sure if Sony would ship 200k PS5 to Japan, they'll have enough stock for at least an entire month and not sell them in just a week.

Also, care to explain why you don't think there being any Switch shortages in Japan?

Because there's no switch shortages outside of Japan. Why is Japan the only country with switch shortages? Wouldn't Nintendo send more stock for Japan instead?

I'm looking for 2 months now to get my hands on an OLED Switch here in Luxembourg, where consoles very rarely go out of stock; PS5 and XS are readily available for instance, and I can't find any, only the base model and the lite. As soon as the OLED is restocked, it's gone again.

The OLED is definitely harder to find, not just in Japan. The Lite is readily available, but few people want one. And why settle for the base model? I'd rather wait and get the OLED instead, and I'm sure I'm by far not the only one.

PS5 is supply-limited, no questions about that. But in Japan, it's not nearly as much as you think it is.

Well in the states it seems like there's no switch oled shortages for 2 or 3 months now. Not in Florida anyway. I follow bestbuy, Walmart, gamespot and such and haven't seen them saying anything about the OLED being out of stock unlike the ps5 and xbox series

It seems like none of us here can say for sure what the stock issues for the switch are in japan, so I would suggest waiting and seeing for now

It is true that playstation has been in a decline in japan for years, ever since the ps2 both Sony consoles and handhelds have been selling less, so even if there were ps5 stock the system won't be selling switch levels of consoles for very long

I think only Japan experts who understand the stock situation in Japan can be trusted. I don't think anyone on Vgchartz would be that person though.

Definitely, and Nin still didn't drop the price.

Yes Japan. If Sony ship 60-70k weekly I can see them selling out for many weeks then it would slow down after.

Switch sale: Lite and OG: same, OLED: lower, shortage it is. If Nin ship more OLED units weekly I can see PS5 never outsell Switch even once.

200k ps5 to play what? Video??? Look at ps5 games sales, well. Nice joke.

PS5 game sales are informed by how many PS5's actual sit in japan. Limited hardware stock limits software sales. We already know from experts that demand in Japan far, far exceeds supply. There's obviously a core base of Playstation gamers several million strong who haven't been able to get a system. PS5 could easily sell 200k in one week if it was able to supply as many systems, but obviously it wouldn't be able to keep that as a baseline for very long as it will meet the demands of that 2-3m core audience (excluding international scalpers)

Switch has already sold to 20m people in japan, for this reason there is probably not enough pent up demand to sell 200k in an ordinary week without a major release or holiday.

I have trouble believing PS5 with ample supply would sell more than 61+k for any more than 2 weeks in Japan if i'm honest but whilst they are selling out all they are shipping i guess it's impossible to predict.

It's definitely more than 2 weeks. I'm thinking at least 2 months

We may never know. By the time there's ample Ps5 stock in Japan, the Switch will be probably showing signs of slowing down but imo it would only be 3 weeks max in the hypothetical scenario, 61k is a pretty "low" example for the switch based on recent trends. There has been speculation that the Switch itself is partially held back in weeks like this due to shortages. Also, Switch sales will go up when big games are released. If the Ps5 stock situation is sorted out this year in Japan my prediction would be that it would be on top for 3 weeks max.

Their is no proof really..  Those core one must also have a PS4 and are not massively buying PS4 games at the moment. Seems like some moved on.
