Forums - Sales - The Road to 160m+ for Nintendo Switch

I think now that Nintendo sees that there will be a different audience for its both consoles, that's why we'll have two separates Directs for two different audiences

Not really as Switch games will be playable on Switch 2, 150m users are the mass market they'll be the same people this is more to not have the future platform  just wipe out the viability of the current platform as remember what happened with PS4 and PS5 the former could have easily gone on to hit at least 120-124m or so but was just dropped with all focus shifting to the latter despite PS4 still getting some notable games for two years after the PS5 launched.

We've got two first party games confirmed for 2026 in the latest Nintendo Direct. While the overall number of notable releases will decrease from here on out, there's still a healthy pipeline of new software at this late stage of Switch's life.

Today is the final day of the current fiscal year which is bound to push Switch's LTD sales to above 152m, meaning only 8m left to go to beat the PS2. We're also only two days away from the Switch 2 Direct which should confirm launch date, launch lineup and pricing for Switch's successor.

The pieces are falling in place. Switch will continue to see notable software support for a while, the console will be notably cheaper than Switch 2 and the remaining gap to reach and surpass the PS2 is more than manageable. Shipments of ~6m are feasible for the fiscal year ending March 2026; we'll get Nintendo's forecast on May 8th.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

King Switch should be 155 million right now

Tomodachi Life certanly will help Switch to get those extra million numbers it need to reach the 160M mark. The only thing Nintendo needs to do is to set the Switch 2's price not so close to the Switch 1

I remember in this thread saying how Nintendo didn't do enough to capitalize on the casual/simulator type games on Switch considering the massive success of Animal Crossing. I felt like games like Tomadachi Life and Nintendogs would've been perfect for the system and potentially even bigger system sellers than Mario/Zelda/Pokemon at this stage of the Switch's life since most people interested in those franchises already own a Switch, I felt like Tomadachi Life & Nintendogs could attract new and returning Nintendo users to Switch since the gap for those games haven't been so filled for the Switch.

Now we finally got Tomadachi Life like I asked for, but I feel like this is to little to late for my liking. Switch 2 will already have been released for a year by the time it releases and since Switch 2 will be able to play all Switch 1 games, people might just get the Switch 2 as opposed to Switch 1 especially if it isn't that much more expensive. It'll also release when Switch 1 hype in general will be at its lowest point and 6 years after the Animal Crossing craze, I think it would've been better to release this in 2022 or 2023 which would've given the Switch 1 a big boost, not when the Switch 1 is in its 11th hour.

However, it still should definitely hep make that push to 160 Million

Isn’t this more important for the Switch 2? Shouldn’t that be the prime directive at this point? Switch doesn’t need much help these days. There could be zero releases on it from this point on and it would probably still cross 160 million.

Tomodachi Life will no doubt be a cross gen title, Switch at this point will leg it out just fine the game isn't too late for Switch it'll be early for Switch 2.

Nothing can stop switch reaching 160.
Its certain.

I cant wait for the Switch Lite OLED, but I think Ill wait for the Switch Lite OLED with Fixed Joycon.

Well, Switch 2's direct is out as well as its price: 450 dollars. Any thoughts on how this will impact Switch 1's trajectory from now on?
