Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Kills Beloved YouTube Channel

Didn't this guy's name used to be SilvaGunner, like, a lot of years ago?

I remember hearing to his Super Smash Bros. Brawl videos back in the late 2000s.

You call it common sense, but Nintendo doesn't see it that way. They see it as giving away something they own that has monetary value (selling it to streaming services and/or releasing limited edition vinyl records etc.).

And that is why I don't mind any of this stuff. Same for other companies as well. It's their creation. They sweated, toiled, bled and worked really hard to make these works of art. So who am I to tell them what to do with it?

As I customer, I think I have the right to demand companies to make me satisfied. Should I support a company that purposefully deprives me from something for no reason? 🤔

That would be up to you. If you feel Nintendo is directly being mean to you, then sure. Stop supporting them. I know I would, if that's how I felt.

Nintendo's gonna drop all their OSTs on Spotify/Amazon/Apple Music...any day now....any day...

Speaking of which its funny how there's some Kirby music officially on Apple music - not the entire OST but a portion of one of the composers.

And when they do, the collection will be fairly incomplete, mark my words.

If you want the music, buy the games, says Nintendo.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

While others are bying studios Nintendo seems to buy more lawyers to get youtube videos down faster =p.

Nintendo owns their material, it is their right. I don't personally understand it, but it is still their right. This reminds me of the whole Metallica versus Napster, and Metallica was in the right.

Nah. Legal doesn't equal right.  They are morally in the wrong here.  Nintendo loses nothing from the use of their music on Youtube, as they aren't selling the music, nor does it seem likely that they ever will.  But, by taking it down, the channel owner and all of the people that would view the videos and/or listen to the music lose.  So, they are literally taking from everyone for absolutely no reason.

It's not morally in the wrong. You don't have to understand everything and you'll be okay, promise.

Nintendo is so strange and backwards at times. We live in an era where you can find alot of officially released video game music on streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Prime Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, etc., with the devs using those platforms to make money for themselves from the music they designed, and yet Nintendo not only ignores those streaming services, they don't put up their music on their Youtube channel and DMCA those who do post Nintendo music. I wonder just how many millions of music streaming dollars Nintendo has missed out on over the years?

If they were smarter they'd make so much more money, not only from their music.

It's not just the Youtube music vids. I mean, Nintendo is still suing people into oblivion for hosting 20-30 year old ROMs. Meanwhile, Sega is offering unprotected ROM purchases of almost their entire Genesis library on Steam at extremely affordable prices. If you want to stop piracy, do what Sega is doing not Nintendo. Yes, Nintendo is within their right to take down these channels/sites, but it is the dumbest thing in the world if you actually want to stop infringement and you're making criminals out of your biggest fans. If Nintendo made a platform for downloading their older ROMs at the same prices that were charged on the Wii U eShop, I am pretty sure that they could kill off at least half of the illegal ROM sites out there overnight not to mention make a fortune on something that has practically no input costs on their end. It's the same with the music, Nintendo could easily be uploading monetized official OST's on Youtube that people would rather listen to and then there would be practically no demand for these unofficial channels.

Nintendo is creating the conditions for a thriving underground market for their content, the same way that prohibition in the last century gave life to the mob. It was well known (just watch the Godfather) that the legalization (with regulation) of alchohol consumption and gambling in the mid 20th century devastated organized crime in America. If Nintendo had any sense they would learn from this important piece of history. It makes way more sense to redirect and work with the natural ebbs and flows of the market then to try to be a dam that holds back the entire current and try to rewrite reality.

It is their property and thus their choice.  It is that simple.

Don't like it, don't support them.  That is your right.  Just because you want something doesn't mean you are entitled to it.

Very simple here folks.

The people they sue pirate Switch games, like this guy called Bowser. I haven't heard of a case where they sued someone only over old games.

What I find incredibly weird and stupid, even dumber than them not uploading their music themselves is that they always only take down some videos, preferably the most popular ones while there are still so many left on various channels. If they have a problem with their music being uploaded like that on Youtube, why are they so sloppy?

Wait, are people saying Nintendo should be more like Sega????

You guys realize Sega is a dumpster fire, right? They are a nobody who has a fraction of Nintendo's IP value.

Sega is fortunate Sammy bought them out and brought other studios along for them to publish.
