Exactly, being lower than some of the biggest years ever is hardly cause for doom and gloom. Context is key.

Surprising that the PS2 never achieved this despite selling 22million lifetime, it must have had many 3 and 4 million years. Do you know the PS2's peak year in Japan?

https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Media_Create_sales_figures

2000-3.75m

2001-3.60m/7.35m

2002-3.65m/11.00m

2003-2.80m/13.80m

2004-2.75m/16.55m

2005-2.15m/18.70m

2006-1.55m/20.25m

2007-0.80m/21.05m

PS2 hit high numbers from consistency & longevity.

Thankyou but wouldn't 2002 be 4.65m

No, 3.65m is correct. The corresponding LTD figure (12.00m) is a mental error on zorg's part. Everything from that point onwards has to be 1m lower.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up.

Yep, my bad

Switch's insane peak seems to have skewed people's perceptions of it's 2021 and 2022 sales.
It's still selling strongly, but some folks see it as weak because they're still using its peak sales as a baseline.

This is really the main issue. I hear saturation and I’m like what saturation? NSW without OLED is ahead of 3DS aligned by over 2mil and it’s outselling it aligned weekly

However, saturation is different for every console.

Saturation is the word basically used to indicate that a console is past its peak.

And I suppose what people mean is the Switch is approaching saturation.

For example lets say a restaurant can serve 180 people total in one night, so far it has served 140 people. It would be approaching saturation point.

Nah, saturation for what many say is when a console is in a decline and won’t sell well/good anymore imo. That said you can have one major year early and then it’s saturation? So how about this year being peak software year while hardware sells over 4mil? Reminder 4mil is not something many systems even sell in a year. 3DS only did it twice while NSW will do it a 4th time in its 6th year. It’s first 2 years we’re just 500k shy of hitting that as well

I would read saturation as
1. Decline.
2. Limited hardware impact from new software releases or price cuts.

mature=/=saturation

switch is currently in the mature part of its lifecycle
