Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu sales: Week 1, 2022 - (27th Dec - 2nd Jan)

The first half of 2021 was very promising, but the second half of the year disappointed a bit. Switch clearly lost momentum since the announcement of the OLED model. Even in Switch's lauch year 2017 it sold more during the holiday season. This looks a bit unnatural, so numbers should be supply constrained.

I expect 2022 numbers to be below 2021 and 2020, but above 2019. Weekly baseline should be around 60k, hopefully no week below 50k to stay healthy.

No, there isn’t any supply issues in Japan

So Japan exist in a vacuum? Supply chains are global.

So it's all over for Switch in Japan?

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

No, but saturation has started to kick in in Japan.

So Week 52 was around the same as 2020 it seems and Week 1 is much lower. I guess that’s fine.

No, in week 52 2020 the Switch sold 278k units, way more than in week 52 2021. In 2020 both last weeks (52 and 53) were huge.

You are right.

I went to an Akihabara store during the holiday season and counted over 80 Nintendo Switches in stock sitting on shelves, lots of them OLED. 0 PS5 of course.

I.. seemed to have looked at the number for Last “week” instead of Last “year”.

I guess so, people with knowledge of the situation in Japan say there has been no shortages at all in December.

All over meaning what?

Why is it so hard for you guys to accept that Switch has peaked in Japan?
