Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu sales: Week 50, 2021 - (6th Dec - 12th Dec)

Splatoon 2 was at 4.69 million physical + digital back in September, and it just broken 4 million physical here.

It makes me think of one of tbone's legendary threads. More specifically, the one centered around Splatoon 2 vs. all versions of Dragon Quest XI in Japan and which would sell more.
God damn, Splatoon may have done it.

Yeah Super Mario Party actually sold more in weeks 7-12 than 1-6, which is pretty crazy. So I wouldn't be surprised if Super Mario Party is ahead by week 13.

With Splatoon 2's new mile stone at retail it should set things up in the run up to the third game, first game hit 1.56m it'll be interesting to see if the third game continues the series upward drive. S2 will probably cross the 5m mark LT the third game has quite a target to aim for as that's an insane number to hit in the region.

Sorry, but let’s be honest here. They may be happy with hardware sales, but if everything was rainbows and unicorns they would disclosed the softwares shipments of PS4 and PS5 separately, but they lumped them together, thanks for the transparency.

So my statement is still relevant: we should ask ourselves, what’s even their strategy at this point ?

Completely wrong. PS4/5 software is mixed due to PS5 BC, which means many PS4 games do not need PS5 versions and many PS5 owners buying PS4 games.

The low stock argument is getting a bit redundant. Perhaps Playstation is just not attracting buyers in the land of the rising sun.

Like I said last time, if stock was the real issue, we'd see software sales, at least 1 title in the top 30. But the numbers are a flat No.

Argument? Has this thread really become so delusional that they think stock problems are imaginary LMAO. Some of you guys must really hurt when you see PS5's sell out in real life.

PS5 shipment =< 16M this FY

I don't think you understand what the words low stock means? Sony is selling everything they can produce atm. Its not going to improve till next FY where they expect to sell 23M.

From installbase I got some interesting info on an interview with Kondo from Falcom. They recently decided to start bringing their games to the Switch themselves and here's a quote:

Q: You said that you will start porting to the Switch because the sales of the product division are declining and Sony PlayStation is not performing well. Why are you starting with the slightly old "The Legend of Nayuta"? Why not a billboard title of the Ys or Trails series? How many sales do you expect?

Kondo: The first choice was "The Legend of Nayuta" as a balance with the licensing department. The latest work has a license contract. After that, we decided to move into full-scale entries on the Switch. The first thing that could be moved was "The Legend of Nayuta."

Kondo: We don't intend to end Switch porting with "The Legend of Nayuta," and we're starting to prepare for subsequent titles. Regarding the target number of units sold, there are business challenges reporting specific numbers, so I would like to refrain from doing so here.

But this is the most interesting part:

近藤:現時点の原因はã€Âクオリティももちろんあるとæ€Âã†ãŒã€Â振るわないPS市場や

Kondo: "I think the cause [of poor sales for Kuro] is, of course there is quality here, is the dull PlayStation market..."

Ahh yes, what a coincidence that the rest of the sentence was omitted

" the decrease in the number of print media in the process of publicizing the product, and inadequate PR activities may have been the causes. "

lmao so transparent

What is really clear here: Sony hardware sales is losing to Nintendo in every market right now.

lmao

we knew this at the beginning of last year where SW was expected 24M and PS5 16M. Don't worry, PS5 should easily outsell SW next year, if TSMC can produce the chips.

Plus he is wrong anyways as PS5 has outsold the Switch in the UK for the 2021 calendar year and Switch will not catch up in the remaining weeks as per Christopher Dring.

It took over 20 years for another console to take the 30/30
And in the same year the nintendo switch did it twice...

Just, wow

2021 below 200k, so even a reduced full year target of 5.7m is in danger now.

Considering the global scale, the bits and pieces of sales data we've received from other continents point to global shipments being lower during the holiday quarter than a year ago, likely in the area of of minus 10%, so the shipment breakdown for Nintendo's fiscal Q3 and Q4 should end up being 10.0-10.5m and 5.0-5.5m, respectively.

Switch sold 3.00 million by week 26 so it has sold more in the first half of the year than the second half, has this happened before?

For every one person that bought a PS5 in Japan last week, 169.76 people bought a Switch.

And not a single game on Playstation 4 or 5 sold more than 3589 retail copies, in December.

This isn't even domination anymore, it's a massacre.
