Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu sales: Week 50, 2021 - (6th Dec - 12th Dec)

@src

Sorry, but let’s be honest here. They may be happy with hardware sales, but if everything was rainbows and unicorns they would disclosed the softwares shipments of PS4 and PS5 separately, but they lumped them together, thanks for the transparency.

So my statement is still relevant: we should ask ourselves, what’s even their strategy at this point ?

All hardware is down this week except for X|S. In spite of that I think Switch has an even bigger market share than the week before. Also, most software in the top 10 is up WoW. I guess software sales are somewhat independent of hardware sales at this point.

Animal Crossing passes the impressive 7m mark for physical only. I wouldn't be surprised if it is the best selling game of all time when digital is factored in. If it isn't there yet, then it will be there soon.

We will know for sure in February.

I know we use the low stock argument a lot, but at some point, you need ask the question: what is Sony’s strategy at this point ?

Their strategy seems to be

"People will wait to buy a ps5 in japan"

It will be interesting to see if the Japanese Market are really that patent with Sony or if they will just eventually give up

Nintendo better make sure they give the same amount of love to japan with their next gen system, or things could become very awkward very quickly

Playstation (4+5) at less than 1% marketshare, yikes.

PS5 sales now trending behind PS4.

Kondo: "I think the cause [of poor sales for Kuro] is, of course there is quality here, is the dull PlayStation market..."

And then they announce Kuro no Kiseki 2 for PS4/5. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo consumers in Japan actually show up for Falcom games once the late ports stop. Right now it's the same ~6kish result for those releases.

Kuro no Kiseki will have started development 2 or so years ago. We'll see the results of this turn around in 2023 when they'll for the first time publish a game on the Switch themselves. Better late than never I guess. At least the successor to the Switch will probably get supported from the start.

That chart is crazy. PS5 is having an anti-holiday. Instead of sales shooting up they've completely flatlined just for the holidays.

I mean I guess it makes sense Sony knows they are weak in Japan so they are just choosing to send all their stock to America and Europe since stock is limited. Still just crazy to see a system sales flatline for the holidays.

Another 30/30 for the Switch. That’s pretty insane. Even FIFA 22 on Switch got in over FIFA 22 on PS4/5. Considering the lowest ranking (Miitopia) sold 3.5K, you’d think some PS4/5 title would’ve sold enough to get in regardless. But nope..

Now you wonder if there would’ve been a PS4/5 title if the ranking expanded to 40.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now has the longest top 30 streak at 242 weeks.

It has a shot at the all-time longest streak too.

I think one of the handheld Animal Crossing games is still ahead of it.

Animal Crossing is estimated to be around 9.8 million now including digital.  It would need to get over 10.2 million to challenge Pokémon Green, Red, Blue, Yellow on the gameboy, but it has a shot.
