So is Switch likely headed for second place of all time then?

Most likely.

It would take a near record breaking December for it to take the title from the DS.

I'm certainly not expecting it to top DS, Nintendo's own forecasts pretty much preclude that anyway. #2 of all time would still be a very commendable feat.

Chips shortage is realy killing playstation, Major concern for Sony guys... i bet they could sell 3 times more consoles with adequate supply chain.

They wouldn't sell 3x, half those ps5 sales are scalpers, those consoles are still on ebay for sale.

And its actually selling on par with the ps4, and the ps4 didn't kill playstation at all. On the other hand that's why they will release more games on PC, so extra profits there too. All will be fine.

To be honest I really don't care, I already have one haha, the only thing I care now is graphics card, I am using a 2080ti because I couldn't find a 3070. Its fine, but I want to upgrade.

PC is being more affected than ps and xbox, as I managed to grab a ps5 and I've seen several for sale and xbox too, but I haven't seen any good graphics card that wouldn't cost triple the retail price.

So its not like sony is losing market to others because of this, all platforms are losing possible market.

3070 isn't much of an upgrade over a 2080ti. A 3080 or higher would be. Tho if you can find a 3070 for MSRP then sell your 2080ti you would have money left and a more power efficient card with a lower TDP.

"Nintendo Switch is designed to fit your life, transforming from home console to portable system in a snap."

Also, it seems the largest retailer in the world disagrees with you as well.  Try typing "Gaming Tablet" into Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=gaming+tablet&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

Nintendo Switch will not show up as an option.  You know where it does show up?  Type in "gaming console".  It's right there alongside the XBox's and PlayStations:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=gaming+console&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

Fun Fact:  The same holds true for the World's 2nd Largest Retailer - Walmart.  Give it a shot.

If I connect my laptop to a monitor does it make it a desktop? If I connect my phone to a monitor does it make it a desktop? If I connect my PSP to my TV does it make it a home console? Does attaching a screen to the PS1, Gamecube, and Xbox Series S (forgot what those attachments are called) make them portables? No, every one of those are able to do more because of accessories/attachments. You cannot play the PSP on the TV without the accessory, and the same goes with the Switch. You cannot play on your TV without the dock, but you can play it portably without accessories because the tablet is the main unit you play off of.

You and everyone else (i.e. Nintendo, Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy... LOL) can keep saying it's a home console, but it still doesn't change the fact it's a tablet first and foremost.

The manufacturer is wrong.  The largest retailers in the world are wrong.  But, you are right.  Got it.

The Dock is not an accessory.  It comes with the system when you purchase it.  When you have to buy something for your console that doesn't come in the original packaging, that's considered a hardware accessory.  When Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft report how many Accessories have sold for their system, do they list the primary hardware sale itself in order to count the original components (power supply, HDMI cable, controller) in the hardware purchase packaging as accessories sold?

I wonder how many people wanting to get a PS5 are getting a Series S instead for the time being just so they can play multiplats without needing to use the PS4 for them anymore. Shame a console with such high demand is getting its full first year significantly held back like this.

A friend of mine did this. He plans on keeping the Series S for Microsoft exclusives and indies down the line. A Series S + PS5 seems vastly more affordable than a PS5+ gaming PC these days too, so if you want to be in both ecosystems on a budget that seems to be the way to go

Unsurprising. People are starting to run out of ways to discredit the Switch's success.

It really does seem that out of the three the PS5 will be harmed by far the most due to the shortages. The gap between the Xbox Series and PS5 would've widened in normal circumstances after this holiday season but it's looking like it might shrink instead.

Yeah it seems so obvious to me that it counts for both since it's literally a hybrid so I've never understood people trying to say it's only one of them.

Man this “what kind of console is the switch” debate really has been going on for 5 years hasn’t it

I mean does it really matter anymore? Nintendo and Sony seem committed to making just one type of console now, and even Microsoft who is making two is sticking to a similar design and purpose

There is also a decent chance that "for the time being" will just turn into "forever" for a lot of people if they never feel the incentive to get a PS5 anymore because Series S ends up being 'good enough'. PS5 will have lost sales to XBox here.

For me, I'm still waiting for some more games to come out for it.  I already played demon souls on PS3 and don't like the Spider-mans or Ratchets.  I still have PS4 Horizon Zero Dawn in plastic and want to play it and Forbidden on the PS5. I also haven't purchased Death Standing or Ghost of Tsushima yet and will also prefer to play on a PS5.  Hopefully stock arrives before FFXVI releases.  So far I haven't felt the urgency to own the Sony console.  I can wait.  I already own a Series X but it won't prevent me from getting the PS5.
