Metroid Dread.

3D World and Great Ace Attorney were cool too, even if they were re-releases.

Monster Hunter Rise shut my worries up with current Monster Hunter, amazing game, wish I could feel the same way about Tales of Arise.

The second chapter of Deltarune was pretty great as well, Unbeatable white label was a cool demo, look forward to more updates on it.

Plants Vs Zombies. Such an excellent game.

There was a new PvZ this year?

The OG. From where varieties arise.

Halo Infinite for me. It's not a perfect game by any means. There's features missing that really should have been there at launch, obviously the f2p monetization atm is uncomfortably aggressive, and there's some areas of the game that could have used a bit more polish and refinement.

BUT, all that ultimately takes a back seat to the fact that playing this Halo game, felt like coming home. Like I was a teenager again, re-discovering the joy of Halo. It was just right. The tone of the art style, the tone of the story, the music, the gameplay. I had a big stupid smile on my face the entire time, and I'm just so happy that it finally feels like 343 gets what Halo game should be like.

Edit: Do wanna give a shout-out to some honorable mentions. Forza was obviously excellent, as it always is, and Mexico was a MUCH better setting than the UK imo. Gonna be a game I play for a long time no doubt. Pyschonauts 2, while lacking a bit in the gameplay department for me, was wonderfully written game, and the level design was so beautifully woven into said writing, that it really elevated the whole game. It Takes Two, imo, is a totally deserved GotY winner. I adore great co-op games, and It Takes Two was an absolute joy to play the whole way through, constantly surprising with new mechanics, and always making me and my friend laugh. Guardians of the Galaxy was a huge surprise. Like Pyschonauts, gameplay left a bit to be desired, but the narrative hit all the right notes, and the cast was literally perfect. It is the definitive GotG experience, better than either of the Marvel movies.

I have that exact same feeling playing the Campaign. Something special about it. 343 have found Halos identity again. Instead of following the trends of other FPS games. Infinite goes its own way. Just like Doom 2016 going back to its roots, Halo Infinite goes back to Halo CE.

Goes to show a game doesn't need to be perfect or gain perfect scores to be incredible.

The wow factor i get when exploring the Halo ring feels similar to when i played Zelda BOTW, and that game blew me away.

Ratchet and Clank for me. The game is sorry polished, is well written, gameplay is super fun, graphics are amazing, the new characters are really good and story does cover some serious stuff such as mental health etc too.

Ender Lilies:Quietus of the night for me. My GotYs usually turn out to be the best metroidvania of the year unless something else really blows me away, and Ender Lilies was that for me this year. Metroid Dread and Forza Horizon 5 are probably 2nd and 3rd.

Halo Infinite for sure.

We should bump this thread in January, once we've all had more time to get through the fall releases.

If I had to say today, I'd go with Halo infinite. However, I've only played a small portion of the campaign, so I'm not comfortable giving that a real vote just yet. The multiplayer is great, and the campaign that I've played so far seems great as well.

Out of the games I've completed, Psychonauts 2. All the characters are well written, dialog is great, gameplay is solid, and I loved the creativity of the levels.
With that said, once I beat Halo Infinite, it will very likely take the top spot. It's such a fun game to play, with a great story so far, music score/sound design is excellent, and the gameplay is top notch. Along with multiplayer being the best it's been in a long time.
Forza Horizon 5 is also excellent game being the most well-made game this year and technical above the rest, but I need something with a bit more story to take the top spot. Overall, Xbox had some bangers this year, which it's been a while since anyone can really say that.
There are still several games I need to get around to playing like RE8, It Takes Two (got it downloaded), Tales of Arise, and a couple others.
