PS5 and Xbox numbers can't be right because they are all being shipped to China or so I was told.

With Xbox the software tie is extremely low (like a whole magnitude lower than PS5) Iirc physical software is a few K. It def seems like its being scalped or it could be Gamepass (although GP was available on XB1 and it provided no bump).

There are only less than 7% the amount of PS5 (non DE) of Series X, the only model who can play disc versions. Only "a few k" would still be close to the attach rate of the PS5 when their respective install base would be put into relation.

Gamepass only released in Japan in 2020.

Had a bet that blue reflection would have had equal to, or slightly higher switch sales then the ps4 version...

Lost that one :V

There's 60k XSX sold with only 2k software on physical iirc .

That's 0.03

PS5 is around 0.5

So no, its literally a magnitude smaller.

There's nothing to suggest Xbox as a brand has improved in Japan, especially when it got a lot worse with many games not even releasing Xbox versions and the launch having no exclusives.

There has only been two things changed: the scalping market and Gamepass.

We'll see which one is the reason soon.

It is quite interesting isn't it?

With weak PS5 and Switch SW sales, it is no wonder they chose the PS4 as well. I hope they can make the transition to PS5/ Switch soon.

And with that, the Switch has officially passed the PS1 for 5th on the All Time Best Selling Console List in Japan.

It is now in the Top 5 alongside the DS, Game Boy/Color, 3DS, and PS2!

Great showing for Switch; so much for there not being demand for the OLED. It seems supply more than anything else will be biggest factor in sales for the remainder of the year.

Good catch! I was trying to keep an eye out for this milestone but forgot haha.

XSX is still in demand it seems, but units aren't available. I've seen used XSX consoles selling for a minimum of 70,000 yen, retail price for new units is 50,000 yen (55,000 yen including tax). Used XSS systems I've seen are selling for new price or slightly higher. XSS stock/re-stock is much better compared to the XSX.

As far as software is concerned, it is much harder to buy physical Xbox games in Japan. Pretty much every retail store doesn't stock Xbox games. There were more at the end of the 360/start of the X1 generation, but after the abysmal performance of the X1 even those stores stopped stocking games. Maybe 1 or 2 big chains still have new Xbox games. Otherwise it is Switch (most available), PS4 (still quite a lot), 3DS (still fairly large), PS5 (fairly small sections) and that's it.
Your best chance of getting a physical Xbox game is ordering it through Amazon JP. It's much easier to just go digital or go with Gamepass.
