“Microsoft thread”

“meltdowns”

What? What type of deals is Sony doing?

You know very well the type of deals sony is doing.

You know who had a meltdown too? You remember your comments when sony was the one rumoured to buy bethesda? Yes you do remember dont you. Every comment you make about the sony fans behaviour here in vgchartz you have it yourself. Its funny.

Again, what? What is this “Microsoft thread” you’re talking about and who had “meltdowns” after a Sony show? Are you talking about timed exclusive deals? Why would anyone melt down over Sony moneyhatting a game

You’re claiming a generation would have been cartridge if not for Sony when Sony was literally the third console out that gen to not use cartridge. Like what are you even talking about? This doesn’t even take any real knowledge to dispel, just look at release dates.

Losing money on hardware at launch is normal and not even close to the point. I’ll give you a C+ for effort though.

You clearly do not know video games history. CD vs Catridge was the biggest format war. It's what led Sony to form Playstation. Nintendo had a monopoly on the gaming market, if they went with cartridges, the industry would follow.

Or are you naive enough to think the Saturn and 3DO would outsell the 64.

We're not talking about launch, we're talking to date. Why don't you educate yourself first before rating other people's efforts?

Nintendo had a monopoly? I don’t think you understand what that word means, lol. Also the PlayStation came about as a result of a failed partnership between Nintendo and Sony to make.. you guessed it, a CD based add on for the SNES.

Why do I care about Saturn sales versus N64? Saturn came out before PSone and was disc based. So your idea that Sony started a disc revolution in the fifth (?) gen is wrong.

Not sure why you’re harping on hardware profits, Sony and MS both eat hardware losses and launch and eventually start selling hardware for profits. Either way they make up more than enough to offset it via software and services. I assume you’re referencing the Apple vs Fortnite stuff, this was all explained clear as day in all the articles IIRC.

Dropping that grade to a D-

Tencent is mainly in the mobile space. They're only real foray into high end gaming is backing Epic.

What the fuck is "high end gaming"? Did you just dismiss the fastest growing gaming sector with that comment? I don't get it. Yeah, you are a super-duper high-end gamer on a non-mobile platform. But you know, people playing with "low end" platforms don't care, they just enjoy their games.

Kinda feels like a monk working on manually copying foliants dismissing the Gutenberg-printed Bible as low end.

I wouldn't mind so much if PC gaming was still affordable, but for over a year now GPU prices have just refused to calm the fuck down.

Wow, I am surprised at the amount of FUD and other bullshit and concern trolling directed at the XBox community. Seeing this much hostility directed towards them I wonder how Xbox fans remain on this site.

I also wonder why other fans feel so insecure. If Xbox is in third place right now, why even bother with downplaying or shitting over their efforts.

What kind of childish thread title "Rumor: Microsoft planning big takeover, wants to take games away from Nintendo/Sony"

I think there a lot of people on here that don't understand that many studios’ founders dream of eventually getting acquired and cashing out.
All of Microsoft acquisition has been organic acquisitions with the full backup of the studios being acquired that free up their team to focus on what they do best making games, rather than worrying about financing and running all aspect of the business.

The OP should really update the title to Microsoft is looking at taking game away Sony/Nintendo to open them up to a much bigger market on Xbox and PC. Also, Microsoft is looking to prevent Sony from locking away anymore content into their single platform rather than a much more open market.

Remember boys and girls that Microsoft doesn't have exclusive anymore everything is on PC, therefore none of these acquisitions lock away content.

Many have left over the years because they were sick of it, I know of at least a dozen who left specifically because they were tired of it. The rest of us largely stick around thanks to the safe shelter of the Xbox Empire thread.

Let's hope the site can have a turn around. Not only for Xbox fans, but also mobile and PC gamers, which are mostly on the sidelines here, if present at all. The community has some glaring blind spots regarding the bigger gaming experience.

If Microsoft became the market leader there would be a bunch of Xbox trolls and bullies on the site. It's just internet culture as a whole is negative. Most people only make a comment to complain or bash something they don't like. At least on this thread they can't downvote comment like crazy just for being a Xbox supporter.

All this hostility and fear is actually positive for Xbox, it mean that they can see that Microsoft is moving and doing many moves to give their fans a better service.

I think it's pretty sad that these people consider themselves gamers if they are lock to only one platform.

Yup.

InXile's Brian Fargo to retire after Wasteland 3 is done in 2019 | VentureBeat

InXile boss Brian Fargo is so happy about the Microsoft deal he canceled his retirement | PC Gamer

Just one example but anyone who follows Brian will see just how happy he was about Xbox acquiring them, he was like a kid in a candy store, Lol. Not everyone wants to sell obviously but there's studios like these who have to spend basically 24/7 securing funding and can no longer be apart of the game development process, when your mind is constantly on "how can I keep my studio alive" it must be horrible.

Tim Schaffer also spoke about this aspect of how tiring it was to constantly have to secure funding and find partners, Obsidian has also often had to do this and been on the brink of closure a few times, heck Obsidian was almost killed by Microsoft themselves one time when they cancelled an RPG in development but they don't hold any grudges against Microsoft, they clearly understand it was a different time/management and are happy under Microsoft now.

You don't want to sell, that is fine, the ones who do want to sell, that is fine too, I ain't gonna hold it against any independent company for wanting to sell, it's their company, their decision. That goes for Sony too.

All companies thriving will be a good thing for all of us and the gaming industry as a whole.

Yeah. I was actually salty about the Obsidian purchase at first, because I love the company. But I realized how this is ultimately good for a stable work environment where staff don't fear to be laid off, if funding falls through at any moment. And form a consumer point of view MS is actually trying to give as opportunities as possible to play their games. They are not tied to only one hardware.

It is funny, how Obsidian, inXile and DoubleFine all three looked for ways to get a more stable line of income and therefore were founding members of fig.co, a cround funding platform for games. Just look at the advisory board, you see all three. I mean, their mission statement actually reads: "We created Fig to provide game studios and their fans a more balanced and sustainable approach to game development."

All three are now at MS and found a sustainable approach to game development that way.

It's amusing this thread just keep going

The best part is this don't even qualify as news, people are arguing only because they can't lose an opportunity to pick fanwars smh
