Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Digital Foundry Crysis 3 Switch version

That's awesome! If I heard right, there will be a launch day patch for Crysis 3. It's possible the Switch version will be even more stable than it is right now.

Now if only Rockstar bothered to port GTA V...

It would be cool if they did that.

As most of Switch's best looking games are more stylized fare there really isn't much on it in a realistic style that looks this good.

Crysis 1 Remastered, Alien Isolation, Outlast II, and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter off the top of my head, but I can't think of much else.

DF says or at least suggests Crytek wanted to show off the Switch version. Therefore this is probably all DF was allowed to compare at the moment.

I'm pretty sure DF did the same thing with Crysis 1. It was a 7th gen vs Switch video first. Also makes sense given all the Switch ports are based on 7th gen consoles.

Crysis 1 came out on Switch first, so at the time DF covered if the 7th gen versions were all they had on hand to compare it to.

And the PS4/Xbox One versions of Crysis 1 Remastered were also based on the PS3/360 version running on Cryengine 3, as work had already been done to make it less dependent on single threaded performance than the Cryengine 2 original from 2007.

I know that. Crytek is choosing which content they want shown first, DF made that point. Its a marketing decision and also why we didn't get a Switch versus newer platforms comparison. Its not a coincidence we only saw Crysis 2 on PS5 and Crysis 3 on Switch.

I said the Switch trilogy in particular is based on console releases. Yes, I am aware all ports of Crysis Remastered are based on the 7th gen version. Although it seems much more work was done on Xbox and Playstation versions to add omitted PC content.

Mortal Kombat 11 looks realistic on Xbox and Playstation. But that gets lost on Switch.

Crysis 3 still blows away many modern games away in that respect.

I do get what you're saying, though technically, they've already shown the Xbox/PS/PC version of Crysis 3 Remastered, in the trailer for the trilogy.

Naturally more graphical upgrades were added onto the more powerful dedicated for Crysis 1 Remastered, though the fact remains they're all based on the 7th gen console base. Even Switch is substantially improved over them though.

While I do appreciate getting to play demanding ports like Doom Eternal, Witcher 3, and Hellblade on Switch, I wouldn't count them among the system's best looking games due to the concessions needed to get them running on a mobile chipset.

Not many games are built for the Switch with a realistic style either, so Crysis 3 Remastered doesn't have much competition, and by taking one of the best looking games of the PS3/360 generation and giving it a graphical boost in several aspects, you get a very nice looking result for the hardware.

...and still no Switch port, even though improved 7th gen ports have been feasible for quite some time. Rockstar is just not interested in Nintendo. Weirdly enough there are rumours floating around that the remastered trilogy is going everywhere, even toasters.

Makes sense. They want a quick buck, so giving the old single player GTAs to a 3rd party porting company and sell them everywhere is much cheaper than trying to make the GTA V online work well on the Switch.

You know it deserves the GOTY.
