NS - 30/30

Silly Japanese people.  Don't you know that the Switch is doomed?  This table makes it look like every other system is doomed.

Next thing you know they'll be buying the OLED model, which nobody is going to buy because it's not the proper 4K Pro that Nintendo, I mean the youtubers promised. The nerve of them, defying the internet like that. Haven't they even heard of The Cliff?

On a serious note though, the sheer domination on display here is truly formidable. This is way beyond even Playstation in Europe levels of regional supremacy. The entire top 30 games and nearly 6 Switches sold for every PS5. I get that digital rates are probably quite high on PS, but surely not to the extent that not having a single game over 2256 for the week isn't a concerning sign.

Holy Shit.

A clean sweep!

Never thought I'd actually get to see it.
And the first time it's happened since the Famicom? And keep in mind, what competition did the Famicom have back then compared to what the Switch faces now? That makes it even more impressive!!

That is a good point.  I think at the time the main competition was the SMS and PC Engine.  The Famicom had the advantage of being the first Japanese console though.  It didn't have to kick a previous gen system out of the top 30.  The main thing keeping the Switch from a clean sweep before was the PS4.  But as it gets phased out we might see more weeks like this for the Switch.

the sega mark 3 realesed at the same time as the NES, and the SMS in japan was only a half step upgrade in japan, realesed in 87.

the PC engine was also realesed in late 87 so yeah nintendo's main competitor (sega was thrid in japan untill the sega saturn, which sold more then the n64 and near double that of the mega drive).

nintendo's main competitor duing the SNES era in japan was always the PC engine, aka the turbographix 16, which is currently sitting under the ps5 and abouve the vita, at 8 million units sold in japan.

the mega drive sold around two fifths of that...

HARDWARE Q1-Q3 TOTAL 2020: 4.427.926

Switch would need 530K or an average of 76K sales in the next 7 weeks to surpass it's last year total at the end of the Quarter.

With the OLED launch I think the more likely result is that Switch is down YoY at the end of Q3, but it will quickly catch up and overtake 2020 after OLED launches.

Software in the Top 30 will only catch up to 2020 after Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, Mario Party Superstars & SMT V launch next Quarter.

The remaining titles that can shake up the Top 30 until the end of the Quarter are Tales of Arise, Yu-Gi-Oh: Rush Duel, WarioWare, Kakarot & Lost Judgement. I expect the PS4 to have 3 games in the Top 30 after Tales launches, I think the PS4 version of the game will end up selling 150K to 200K

Glad to hear. Best recovery for you.

So only 2 non-Switch games in the top 30 YTD.

Not much upcoming on the Playstation front that looks like it could carve out a spot in the yearly total either, not with the likes of Pokémon BD/SP, Mario Party Superstars, Shin Megami Tensei V, etc set to raise the bar for entry.

Regardless of the circumstances, a Switch-only top 30 chart is pretty amazing. They've been close in certain weeks the last couple of years, but here we are. It really shows how much Japan has embraced the Switch. You see it in anime/manga, variety shows, etc. Unfortunately for Playstation, the Switch is a beast that cannot be tamed by anyone unless Nintendo screws up completely in Japan.

Its pretty amazing considering when the Switch launched, Nintendo wasn't in the greatest position at the time. Sure, the 3DS was still selling well in Japan, but the Wii U was basically nonexistent outside of Splatoon, Mario, and Smash 4. Plus, the PS4 had all the big third party games from Japan and most of the smaller titles from Japan, as well. FFXIV, FFXV, FFVIIR, KHIII, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Metal Gear Solid V, MHW, Soul Calibur VI, Dead or Alive, Resident Evil VII, VIII, IIR, and IIIR, Guilty Gear, Persona 5, Nier, Yakuza, DQXI, Tales of Arise, Legend of Heroes, Trails of Cold Steel, Dark Souls, Seikiro, etc.

Nintendo doesn't even have a quarter of that AA-AAA support from Japanese developers. Yet, Japan has found the Switch a more appealing console. So much that even those big titles don't last as long as you would think on the weekly charts in Japan. Not to mention, its not just Nintendo titles finding success. Titles like Momotaro, Story of Seasons, Fitness Boxing, Monster Hunter, Baseball Spirits, etc. are finding success on Switch. Some multiplatform titles are finding more success on Switch than PS4/PS5 even.

Its been an incredible run for the Switch. While the debate of 2021 vs 2020 hardware sales will be interesting till the end of the year, the big picture shows how dominant Nintendo has been since the Switch launched.
