Definitely a Switch Killer for me, no question. Probably not in general though because it's not as appealing to children as the Switch.

"Nintendo products are for kids" mantra is getting old and worn out at this point.  All Switch sales data points to adults being the largest userbase of the console.

Congrats! I'll probably get one at some point next year, waiting to see some post-launch tests first, like:

  • How well will it run high end 9th gen games? Can it run them on low settings at 720p, or are the specs still not enough for that?
  • How will performance on games compare on Steam OS and Windows?
  • Is the SD card slot really limited to UHS-I speed (104 MB/s) or can it use higher end UHS-II or UHS-III SD cards without capping their speed?

I'm also hoping to see Microsoft make a Native Xbox app for it, so that you can not only stream xCloud games without using the web browser, but also wi-fi stream games from your Xbox Series to your Steam Deck, cutting out the latency issues of streaming those same games from the nearest xCloud data center.

I'm mildly curious, but I have to ask, are you really just wanting to treat this device not as a mini PC, but more of a portable Xbox system?.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Thanks and yea, this is more or less a beta test product as Valve has never made anything like this before. So if it is successful, I am sure the second iteration will be significantly improved in every area.

The reason I am happy buying something like this is because it's a pc. So even if it's not successful and never gets a second iteration, I can still play all my hentai games on it on the go.

This device may well be able to play Switch games too, lol. The Ryujinix emulator guys probably could optimize the emulator specifically for this chip/resolution to squeeze some better performance out of it. If not this one, almost definitely Steam Deck's next hardware revision.

Thanks! I tried for over 40 mins straight with constant errors and 'too many payment attempts' oof, so glad when it finally got through. Good luck for those still trying.

I think it could also become the best available home/portable retrogames station, given its specs.
Coupled with Launchbox and a 1Tb sd card it will be a blast!

The only potential issue could be the buttons layout, especially for the d-pad. I just need to test it out before buying.
