Forums - Website Topics - Vgchartz taking advertising too far?

Dude, If you think the numbers are inaccurate, then don't visit and complain! If you don't like the Ads, to bad, it's not your decision. Suck it up.

I am not complaining, I am observing. And as to the reply of the mod above, I was indeed offering constructive criticism when I said you need to begin providing targeted ads instead of ads that have nothing to do with videogames -which in turn would boost your revenue and make the ads less intrusive for us readers.

Two, I don't come on this site for the numbers. I'm one of the few that actually pays for NPD's monthly detailed report. I come here because the forums on this site are considerably more mature and insightfull than most gaming forums out there. The reason I brought the numbers up is because some of the numbers, namely software numbers are still fairly innacurate. To make the big bucks off a few licensed ads Ioi has to gain the trust of publishers first -And as of right now, with the largest gaming forum on the internet -neogaf- having banned vgchartz numbers outright, there's a lack of trust to encite publishers to consider vgchartz as a valid maketing avenue. Thus in turn for Vghartz to attract such advertisers ioi has to further work on his numbers. It was intended as a reply to the person that brought up publisher advertising as an alternative to low paying adsense ads.

We either advertise on the site or we have to charge money for our numbers, which is not what the site is about at all. That´s the problem we are facing currently.

Not all the ads are so bad, I laughed quite a lot seeing Scientology doing "Get the Bucks Facts" ads like Microsoft! And I laughed even more thinking how hopeless they are advertising here: in sci-fi and fantasy games we can see lots of much better artificially concocted religions!!!

PS: Keep on doing your good job, VGC, if you need ads, it's fine for me

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")

The only problem I have are the new "add to cart" button next to every game in the sales chart, it really uglifies the charts.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

STFU

I have no problem if ioi can actually make a few bucks off the site, it is called Market Capitalism. He puts a good bit of time and effort into it, and there is nothing wrong if he kind find a way to get a grand or 2 a month from running the site.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

When I mentioned Complaining, I was not referring to the ads, I was reffering to the numbers. Even if you don't think the numbers are accurate I believe that there is no need to restate your opinions many times. We get it, you don't believe the numbers are accurate, but for a free service,VGC does pretty damn good. I think you can agree with that.

As for NeoGaf banning all VGC members, that's just stupid and childish. It's like if Youtube banned all Asians, and if VGC banned all Christians. If people believe that VGC #'s are accurate then they shouldn't be criticized for it.

Sorry if I come off as a Ass.

Guitar Hero 3/ Smash Hits

I agree on the ads part, once i started getting pop and sound ads i got upset. I don't mind normal ads but that was too far with sound blasting.

My god, just suck it up and deal with it.

Ioi does the ads so he can pay the retailers provding him with sales info. Do you mind paying $14.95 a month to visit so the website can look cleaner?
The thing is, the sales numbers on this site are largely innaccurate so no one in their right mind would pay a dime for them. And I seriously doubt ioi pays retailers for sales info. As for the other guy mentioning advertising with the big guys, the diffiulty this site faces when doing that is that it still lacks credibility in the industry, Ioi first needs to work on making the numbers more accurate and once that happens sponsors would follow.

Ok...now that we understand your agenda...

I have no agenda. One cannot argue that the software numbers of VGchartz shows a large disparity to those of NPD.

If I had an agenda I wouldn't be writing paragraphs pointing out some flaws in the sites administration such as untargeted ads and amazons low commission rates.

That's the whole point!. WE DONT WANT TO BE NPD. We don't want to have their figures. Can you give me that link that proves NPD is 100% accurate? I'm gonna wait right here for it.

The point of the site isn't to be as far away from NPD as possible. Regardless of wishful thinking, NPD is more accurate than this site when it comes to tracking sales numbers. Every game publisher uses NPD and most game publishers track their own titles internally, so the NPD numbers are close to the real thing.

With that said, I don't mind ads. They seem to be in pretty much the same spots as before. A lot of work goes into this site and if they need or want money for it then I have no issues with that.

I think bully is just trying to bash the site's credibility. Ads are important part of the site to keep functioning. It does get rather expensive to have a site like this with tons of data, pictures, and hits. This all takes a good chunk of storage space and monthly bandwidth which is what you are charged for from hosting companies.

VGChartz is not NPD. VGC is a competitor who offers a better, more user friendly, video game sales figures FOR FREE. Sure, there is a good possibility that in software NPD is closer to the mark, but in the world of statistics and trends you don't have to be that accurate all the time. Its all estimations.

Also, is it that hard to just ignore the ads if they don't appeal to you?

Please Ioi, just get rid of the ads that pop up in the middle of posts. Those things are fucking annoying. I'll even live with the ads that shout 'HELLO' at me if you would just get rid of those.

Also lets just ignore the OP, he's clearly here with an agenda which this post is just a cover for.
