Forums - Gaming - epic games wont ever make games for the wii

Never really played any Epic games but I would say it's rather commendable of them. Their not taking the easy way out this gen.

crappy benchmark maker don't want to make a wii game that is a gain for me cause i won't see another crappy unreal game on wii.

...and when was the last time I spent money on any EPIC developed title? Oh, thats right - never.

Maybe one day, if they start doing something other than FPS titles, the rest of the world might care.

The Wii is taking the industry away from the "tech heavy, FPS fanbase" core, and its most definitely a BAD thing for EPIC.

EPIC loss?

...

And Virus? LOL! I thought Bingo dayz were over :)

Epic thought they would become a dominant force in the videogame industry with their Unreal Engine 3 licensed for the "real next-gen"...

The fact Wii is such a success hurts these guys, because it will make their graphic engine look "less essential" to many devs out there, who will now try to get the max out of the Wii, even by creating their own "homemade" engine... while big budgets games for PS3 will not be seen as good investments for at least a few more years... so no money for Epic then...

That's all there is to say about it: Epic games will sell well enough on the 360/PS3, but to a very limited portion of the gaming world, when these guys believed all the industry was about "next-gen" FPS, hopefully created thanks to UE3... now, they're anger and bitter, and try to ridicule Wii on every occasion...

And who cares outside of the hardcore internet crowd anyway? It won't change anything, it's already too late, Wii is a virus, as they say... and people buy more and more games for it, a proof the console is getting played, and enjoyed... yes, even without any UE3 made games... sorry, Epic, that's life... maybe next gen...

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

I like epics games on PC. it pisses me off that they don't do a great job like they use to on PC.

UT2K4 was a let down UT3 was abit better but not as goo das the original.

I really wish he stopped saying stupid things like this and actually concetrated in making my PC games great. Otherwise the next epic game will be a download for me instead of a purchase.

you can pretty much make the same game every single time with a new name and people will buy it.

Like Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart GC, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart ......... That 's what you meant right?

That was very good example... Originally the talk war about old games with new names, then you mentioned new games with old names (and the MK on GC is MKDD). And another point is, that the games are on different consoles, with ten years timeframe. @Topic: I understand why he makes comments like that; Epic didn't see Wii "coming" and wasn't prepared for it. So, as mainly an engine developer, it's starting to be a little late for them to start building a graphics intensive engine for Wii, especially when some others are doing one, so Epic wouldn't have an advantage in the market. If Epic gets to licence one additional game from that comment, it's around ten million in cash (basically nothing but profit) for them (if i recall the UE3 fee). Besides, when making money with engines, high dev costs are always better, because you can charge more from your engines and the market for the engine is actually bigger. So the Wiis success have cost (and will cost) Epic a shitload of money, which means that anything that may help Epic, no matter how desperate it seems, to sell their engine, is understandable. This would be the case with other engine developers, unless the UE3 would have got so big foothold as starters, or if Epic would have had a small share in engine market, they wouldn't complain.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

What he says seems to be ringing true, I know 7 of my mates have bought one after showing it to each other. Not one of them has played the wii in well over 5 or 6 weeks or so.

Eh, who cares if a company invested in making flashy shooters isn't interested in developing for the Wii. I mean, it's not like they're going to come out with Jazz Jackrabbit 2 any time soon or anything.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

PS: I wonder when they'll stop calling it next-gen.

It's next gen until the next next gen arrives. Then the next gen becomes the new current gen and next next gen becomes the new next gen. And everything before the old next gen becomes the new retro.
