Forums - Sales - PS3 overtaking the (Dead) 360 Anytime soon? Not really...

I agree, though I think that if it does move huge, huge amounts of PS3s, then some might drop the 360 version that they are working on if they are half way through, it is unlikely, but the fact is that the Japanese do not like the 360, which is less of an incentive to make jRPGs, though as you say that genre is becoming more popular around the world. However, it is expected that by the end of next year, the PS3 will probably have overtaken 360, even though the US lead will still be intact, which will dent the likelihood of jRPGs for the 360 (though Europe is less of a jRPG market than the US)

BEST case scenario for the PS3 has it passing the Xbox 360 late next year (though to be honest if it ever REALLY looked like they'd be overtaken I think Microsoft would step up).  At the end of the day, I just don't see the potential lead the PS3 could get this generation as being great enough or coming soon enough to creat any exclusives for the PS3 it wouldn't already have gotten, or rob the Xbox 360 of any exclusives it would otherwise have had.

The rates never hold so it's pointless to say it will stay +200k.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Things can change rapidly - an X360 motion controller and a price cut could easily double the 360 sales and steal some of the the Wii's thunder - and it's' still the lead profit making console so far.
The Blu-ray boost over Xmas will continue to push the PS3 sales up alot over the next year , a price cut and some good exclusives are appearing on PS3 now GT5, Motorstorm2 ,MGS etc.
Nintendo may find a way to boost production and sales by another 100% by releasing in Korea then China or India (then agian so may the other consoles).

Simply looking at current sales and projecting is useless - you need to look at trends and strategies too.
PS3 looks like the getting the biggest boost for this year.

To bad the PS3 has mostly failed to deliver the innovative games i hoped for instead it's crap Xbox and PS2 ports in 720P and almost no effort to add any good motion support.
Seems like the Wii had been doing the innovating with adding motion controls and IR pointer features to games this year - at least someone is.

PS3 number 1 fan

If PS3 does outsell the 360 in late 2009 or 2010 it will be because sales in Japan or Europe...

For me and people living in the North America, this does not mean anything as Xbox 360 will always be the console to play on our continent.

I am not saying that I won't ever buy a PS3...however I will buy it to play the the PS3 exclusives only. Multi platform games will be played on the 360 here as the friends list for the 360 is massive.

Also, when it comes to software sales, NA market sells about as much as Europe and japan COMBINED!

Therefore anyone saying that 360 is dead when PS3 overtakes it worldwide is wrong. NA market has the 360 dominating and that alone is reason enough to have the 360 be the console of choice for 3rd party developers.

PS. Starcraft...change your signature as Ikaruga is rated 90 on metacritic and is the 12th 360 game in that club. :)

I posted it in some thread a while ago (and I hope the numbers are correct, the point itself is valid, whatsoever):

To pass Xbox 360 sales this year the Playstation 3 has to outsell it by roughly 145k units a week now - every week it outsells the 360 by a smaller margin the average increases. So far the PS3 is outselling it by roughly 50k units a week, which is 1/3 of what it would actually need. Considering Final Fantasy and GT5 will be released next year I think it is highly unlikely the system will pass Xbox 360 LTD sales this year.

I mean... you never know but it is highly unlikely. I expect it to happen sometimes next year, depening on what games Microsoft and Sony will reveal at E3 and Games Convention.

The 360 cost exactly the same amount as the Wii in europe , guess what ? it's still been the worst selling console in Europe this year.

Did you mean double production in turn doubling sales ? or Doubling production to meet increased demand ? If you was trying to say the prior your completley wrong , those who would have you believe that the demand is exceeding the supply are lying. Basic economic's dictates that demand exceeding supply should be met by price increases (which happened during Christmas '07).

I agree with the poor six-axxis support but XBOX and PS2 Ports, WTF ? Don't confuse it with the Wii.

Motion controls is fun and all that but I prefer the traditional gamepad in most circumstances , the only situation where the WiiMote would be fun is in sword fighting for me yet they have you attacking in pre-defined directions. Real next gen eh?

Look up some PC software charts and say that again.

Taking current sales and extrapolating them into the future is pretty much bullshit.
