VGChartz Top HW Through 16 Weeks

NSW passes 7M in a record 16 weeks.  Only lost 36K ground to 2020 this week for a total gap still at 609K.  3 more weeks of 2020 at huge sales, and then NSW 2021 will have a chance to surge back ahead and re-strengthen that lead (2020 averages 382K for 18 weeks until late Sep).

VGChartz pegging US April NPD at 690-700K range for now.

So they are selling 1.09x more than they did in 2020 for Switch. They just announced around 29 million ships for 2020, so if that pacing keeps up they could have around 31,600,000 ships for 2021? And that's with just the current models. Throw in a Pro model and all the estimates get chucked out of the window.

The Switch sold more than every thing else combined, and..... if you add in the Xbox SSX and PS4 sales a second time.... Switch is still ahead. I really hope Nintendo do not rest on their lead, they need to keep on top of AAA releases from first parties like Metroid Prime 4 and Breath of the Wild 2 needs to be getting news soon, otherwise by the time those games are ready for release it will be years later at this point. I could see Splatoon 2 and Maybe Mario Odyssey 2 coming out before MP4 and BotW 2 at this stage.

The new front page graph doesn't seem to have updated to reflect these numbers...?

NS domination has become the rule.
Sony needs to do something ASAP for its supplies issues, it's partially wasting PS5 first year and this implies that it's wasting the sacrifice of almost killing PS4 early too.

Even in the US, Xbox's strongest territory, the Series is quite far behind PS5. More supply and some actual next gen games can't come soon enough.

I expect Breath of the Wild 2 to be the show-off title for this year's Switch revision along with a simultaneous launch of both the game and the hardware in fall 2021, hence the ongoing lack of news for the game. Nintendo won't show BotW2 until they are ready to unveil the revision.

For Metroid Prime 4 we know that development was completely rebooted in early 2019, so since then the most optimistic expectation for its release was fall 2021, but more realistically it would happen sometime in 2022. This means Splatoon 3 (announced for 2022) releasing before Metroid Prime 4 wouldn't be surprising at all.

What you think about a Odyssey 2 in the same lines as Galaxy 2? More or less the exact same game engine with just new stages and story so they could make it far faster than most games on the system.

I could see Splatoon 3 on time or ahead of schedule too unless the team is pulled to another project, keep in mind they'll have been working on that since Splatoon 2 had the last Splatfest which is over a year ago now and again it's going to be using almost all of Splatoon 2's code in the background I'd say, that game works amazing on the Switch's hardware, very little work needed in that area imo.

Switch is barreling through town like an unstoppable crazed sturmbeest.
