Yep.  Something to keep in mind is XBox/Playstation in Generation 7 vs. Generation 8.  XBox 360 ended up with most Japanese games on it.  On the other hand, Japanese devs often didn't bother with the XB1.  Persona 5 released in 2016 and never made it to any XBox, for example.  One big thing that differentiated PS4 from XB1 were the Japanese 3rd party games.  PS3 wasn't really differentiated from XB360 in this way.  Consequently, PS3 and XB360 sold about the same amount worldwide, while PS4 clearly dominated the XB1.

No, absolutely not. Japanese games were not the reason that the PS3 and X360 sold about the same. And the lack of them on the Xbox One was definitely not the reason the PS4 outsold the XB1 so heavily.

It's one of the big reasons.

In Generation 7, the XBox360 did well because:
-It had better first party support than XB1
-It had almost the same 3rd party games as PS3 (both Japanese and Western)
-It was often priced better than PS3

-In Generation 8, the XB1 did not do nearly as well because:
-It had inferior first party support than XBox360
-The PS4 had more 3rd party exclusives (especially from Japan)
-It was priced worse than PS4 at launch, and about the same shortly after that

The main things that matter are software and price.  The PS4 had quite a few games that the XB1 didn't.  The two systems are so similar in a lot of other ways, that the games that are exclusives end up being an obvious advantage.  A lot of those exclusives were Japanese 3rd party games.

How is there no PS5 games making it in the top 10 with 33k.. still great to see it start to pick up a little. Previous stocks were alarming, this is okay.
Nintendo is definitely holding on stocks for the MH launch. It is still doing better than last year tho.
Wish BD2 would have crossed the 100k milestone, although it will with digital. So with that it should be on par with the original game i think.
SoS, great numbers.

There haven't even been PS5 games in the top 30, not in 2021.  I have to wonder if these systems would still sell as well without backwards compatibility.  It seems like the PS4 is still tracking ahead of PS5 sales and it was not backwards compatible.  I don't think it had any notable games at launch either.  Some people simply want to buy a new Playstation for no good reason.

Yea feel like people are just playing the PS4 select titles that are free with the console.

and the "299 of ps4"

In stationary 8th console gen, Nintendo and Microsoft make many missteps.

if is true, is because of forcing the game like a service and price depreciation, race for the bottom.

Maybe is partially true.

The other part is scalpers/East Asian distribution

It's really not. Probably wouldn't even make the top 100.

How many Japanese games on PS/Xbox sell over 3m? Excluding Final Fantasy (which Xbox One still had) you could probably count them on one hand. Yet you think they were a big reason for a 60m+ sales swing?

Do you know which games are not responsible for a 60m+ sales swing?  GTA5, COD, Minecraft, etc....  You can play these games on either PS4 or XB1.  These multiplatform titles make both platforms more attractive.  They do not differentiate one platform from another.  Instead you get some people who say, "I want to play both COD and Persona 5" or "I want to play GTA5 and Yakuza 6".  GTA and COD give people a reason to buy a game system, but exclusives often make them choose which system they are going to buy.

If you can play COD on either system, then why not buy a system with more exclusives?  When the PS4 has all the XB1 games you want to play, plus some more, then that makes it a better system to buy.  A good amount of those exclusives are Japanese third party games.

Apparently nobody wants the PS5 Digital, so that can't be blamed for the lack of titles in the top 30, as it's comprising only around 10% of all PS5 sales.

New Famitsu numbers (Mar 1 - Mar 7) are up. I'll let Marth do the new thread but here are some numbers:

Switch - 90K
PS5 - 22K
PS4 - 3K
XBox Series - 600

All Switch in software top 10, still led by Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

Switch: SW-3707-5131-3911
XBox: Kenjabish

SM3DW+BF holds really well. I'm very happy this gem is getting more exposure.
