I may have found the inspiration for a beloved Scooby-Doo villain:

Me and the fam just finished Sopranos.. Maybe I'll come off as a hipster or contrarian or something but.. eh? Was there something I was missing here? I mean it was a *good* show, but revolutionary? Top 10 ever? HBO's best? Even "great"? Didn't really feel that way to me.. And mind you, Goodfellas is a top 10 movie of all-time for me.. I guess I didn't expect it to be as much of a random episode-to-episode plots, "slice of life" as much as it was.
I did like aspects of that as it kept things more unpredictable. But few of the characters were likable to me, and things just felt random and often inconsequential as a whole. Granted I'm coming off bigger, darker, over-arching plotlines with stuff like Breaking Bad (which I still find better than Sopranos by a country mile) so I'm more into and used to that I guess. Also, and I know they're deeply mired in like inner city Jersey upbringings and culture, but the accents and stereotypical Italiano mafia guy schtick was a bit grating and irritating at times.
I *did* appreciate how they took a bit of a psychological approach and exploring the dynamic of a mafioso with anxiety attacks in the midst of a midlife crisis. But as a whole? Just aight for me.. B- or even C+ really.. Probably plop it in my top 20 shows, but doesn't even approach the likes of Breaking Bad, Twilight Zone, South Park, Game of Thrones (S8 doesn't exist!), Alice in Borderland.. Didn't even quite reach Ozark, Severance, Banshee, Happy, Squid Game, Spartacus, or Better Call Saul levels, which themselves were somewhat mixed for me.

I really like Sopranos, but for me, the likes of The Wire and Six Feet Under will always stand taller. Not to mention Band of Brothers. For what it is, and as a deep dive into organized crime and the psychology involved, I find Gomorrah to be a much stronger contender.
Not so much watch as read, but:
Blacksad: After failing to find much television or recent movies that really scratch my particular hardboiled itch I've started looking to other mediums. Blacksad has ended up being one of the better remedies I've tried so far. Nice mixes of crime, drama, humor, politics, and absolutely gorgeous artwork. Guarnido's character designs are truly second to none. Would love to see an animated miniseries or something at some point (if they did it right). I'll have to try out the game in the meantime.
Also checked out a cyberpunk comic called Clear that wasn't bad either.

The amount of talent these pwnisher challenges have attracted and brought into the spotlight is truly incredible:
Inspires me to keep going with my own training.
