Also Top 30 is now updated.

All three charting PS4 titles were outsold by their respective Switch counterparts. Switch is great for 3rd-parties.

Yet, another japanese third party managed to ignore Switch once again with kimetsu no yaiba. Really impressing me with this kind of decisions.

Q1 2021 3rd Party

  1. Momotaro Dentetsu (Konami) - 556.733
  2. Minecraft (Microsoft) - 94.312
  3. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin (Marvelous) - 43.628

Pretty huge difference YoY, mainly due to Momotaro.
Monter Hunter Rise, Olive Town & Bravely Default 2
should push the third party total beyond 4 million for Q1.

And no PS5 game in the top 30 despite a bigger hardware shipment this week.

Did release something new for it? I don't know, did Disgaea 6 for example?

Also Switch has twice as many new titles this week as PS4.  Perhaps third party companies are starting to wise up?

No, but the threshold to get into the top 30 is only ~2,500, so it once again begs the question if people are buying PS5s to play PS5 games.

Yeah. 25K new PS5-owners should pickup something and we could start to expect people already owning a PS5 to pick up their next game. This doesn't look too well.

But now we know why Sony put such effort into designing the PS5 instead of just producing a brick like Xbox: if people don't get a PS5 to play it, they use it as interior decoration.

Yaba will release in all consoles minus Switch. Idolmaster will not receive a Switch version.

Switch going up! And Momotaro and RFA are just truly INSANE!

Edit: and Splatoon 2 4million dream is still alive (unless it reached it with digital sales)

Splatoon 2 is around 4.5 million with digital. It will definitely sell more than 5 million.

Wow it is doing better than I thought.

Heh, well some companies learn faster than others.

But yeah, we're talking about big ones here (cyberconnect and NamcoBandai). With popular franchises in japan not being on the most popular system for no reason.
At the end Bandai did no effort for the switch (even with the least demanding games), just helping around with what nintendo allowed them to do with the latter's IPs. The rest are just taking delusional decisions.

I will continue to be baffled by some of the decisions third party developers in Japan are making in regards to the lack of Switch support. What more do they want? It’s already been four years since it released. We’re seeing numerous success stories for third party and indies on switch. It’s selling incredibly worldwide. The Switch is not just catering to casuals or soccer moms like the Wii did.

If this more about brand loyalty or money then it’s whatever. Stop trying to find small excuses of not wanting to develop games for a successful system. Outside of the big developers, most of the Japanese devs are not gonna suddenly take advantage of the 4-8K resolution, ray tracing, 120 fps and make AAA games.
